My current set-up is: Camera: Panasonic DMC-LX7 "The DMC-LX7 is equipped with a 24mm ultra wide-angle LEICA DC VARIO-SUMMILUX lens featuring outstanding F1.4 brightness at wide-end and F2.3 at tele-end. The extraordinarily rich amount of light allows not only using higher shutter speed for blur-free images in lower light situation, but also giving impressive expression by reproducing exquisite gradation and mellow defocus. The Nano Surface Coating is applied to minimise ghost and flaring." Macro: On Tripod: Yes, 8" from lens to coin Lighting: Single desk lamp angled at 45 degrees at 2 o'clock to the subject. 6500K Daylight white bulb. Flash: No Zoom: 0.2 m White Balance setting: Auto Shutter on 2s timer Pictures cropped in Paint.net Example: I have also had good results in natural daylight, but you have to wait for the right conditions and the amount of light is variable. I much prefer being able to control the amount and angle of the light. You may find this article useful: http://coinimaging.com/photography.html

For those that aren't sure what we're on about, here is a picture.

I too check a couple of '67s every now and then for the same error, Richard has given us both that bug haha I'm starting to wonder if it is unique, it would be interesting to know if any other member has seen or owns an example of it too.

Haha wise move Brian I'm reckoning she's made an error, because she didn't list any 1964 pennies (if that makes sense) Pictures are terrible as is usual for eBay, the high bid has surely got to be for the 1951 and maybe the 1935. A bit of a gamble with those pictures though.

Hi Matt Here's a bronze example using the same set up: p I should have added, the background can be important, worth experimenting. I bought some different coloured crafty materials from the local Tescos (sheets of non-relective foam-like material. Depending on the tone of the coin you are photograhing, lighter or darker backgrounds may work best. The key to the bulb is that you get best results with daylight white - the local DID store should stock them, I got mine on-line. Often bulbs are 'warm white', giving a yellow hue, which in theory can be corrected using the white balance settings on the camera (if you have them), or post production, but I have had far better results with daylight white bulbs. Thanks to Stuart (Coinery on here) for that tip (he even sent me some!)

Just to add - I do use daylight for my photos because I just can't get the lighting right from a controlled source, I think my problem is the bulb I'm using from reading your description. Do you get them from somewhere in particular or will the local DIY shop stock them as standard?

Thanks for that detailed breakdown Paulus, I've been trying to get some good pictures on my Canon and can't work out why they aren't very good. I have some ideas to try now and that picture is a stonker! Do you know if you get the same sort of results photographing bronze, or will the metal not make a difference?

It's really good they don't have import or taxes down under, is it to promote import or what? I don't get why they wouldn't.

You don't get the hit every time though, more often than not they'll apply the import, duty etc but I've had a couple come through sans mark-up. Here in Spain, anything outside of Europe gets diverted to the customs office, regardless of price, and then they make you fill out multiple forms and webpages before telling you that the forms haven't been received or that the web sites are not working or a plethora of other problems. I've been stung twice like this so anything of value I get sent home to the UK and get it forwarded to me over here. The postal system here is a crock of sh!*e.

Yes the last few things were surprisingly fast. As far as I know there are no import duties or fees in Australia (though I think it's being discussed for items worth over $1000).

Because one of the most popular denominations.

Also, what is diagonal bar between the lighthouse and the shield? There's die clashing going on in front of and behind Victoria's neck, both caused by the folds in Britannia's dress but the diagonal bar seems to match up with empty space on the obverse. See http://www.britnumsoc.org/publications/Digital%20BNJ/pdfs/1982_BNJ_52_21.pdf for anyone interested.
