Hi. Here I'm sending a few scans of a coin that I found in the top soil that I order for my polytonal. Could you identify this coin please and value if it is possible. Thanks a Lot. Regards John.

and should we not be looking at every date using obverse 12? and speaking of which, you seen the R on the 1893/2 in the Copthorne Collection?

There were two obverse 2 dies used the 1860 N over N sideways, they are both fairly often found and both have repairs. I tend to look for the A of VICTORIA which is also badly repaired. Jerry

I just want a small not to expensive collection that I can show and hopefully bring some good memories back and I can learn from their life's experiences. I have already purchased Crowns, half Crown, double florin, florin, shilling, sixpence, threepence, half pence and a farthing so I am not far off complete for what I need. I really hope a care home or hospital will let me volunteer when I am better myself and this is an idea I hope to happen even if it is an hour a week. My late mum had Dementia and I know how important keeping someones mind occupied can be and as much as we tried it is hard for carers. I may not get the chance to do it but if not it will not be for the want of trying. I like anything old like steam engines that ran machinery and old pocket watches even though I don't collect them and if I look at an old pocket watch or coin I don't think about value I think about what it was used for and just let my imagination wander.

Dave, that's a snipe bid (there are websites you can go to where you enter your details and maximum bid and the program will run and make a bid in the very last seconds of the auction).

Hi John , Ive only just seen your post but I can tell you ,you have Viking coin of Anlaf Sihtricsson 941-944AD. They were mainly struck at York. Did the topsoil come from that area ? I think I would buy a couple more tonnes and sieve through it or get a metal detector. priced in Spink at £1850 in fine and £7500 in VF, I think yours would be nearer vf for that type
