I've been in North Norfolk this week with my springer Jake and faced my Ist holiday without Mrs Peter. The weather has been roasting.Today my eldest and her boyfriend visited and we have had a day on the beach followed by fish supper. They have taken Jake back with them so tomorrow I'm geared up for fishing two tides. It has been brilliant, far better than I could of imagined.Jake has been a godsend. Life took an ugly turn last year and the last 11 months have been hell. There is light at the end of the tunnel .

Since "cleaned and retoned" has been talked about lately, I will post my example of such a thing. It was one of the first coins I brought (from an auction house in Warwickshire). It was described as "1902 crown AUNC". I was very inexperienced at the time and didn't realise that the description should have been "1902 matt proof crown, cleaned". It has been toning on my window sill for several years now and is gradually looking better.

Thank you that's very kind!! Yes he will, Iam still the owner but trust him to run it in the same way we always have!! Lee has worked for colin Cooke for 15 years and is quite adept at dealing etc and I wouldn't have made the decision if I wasn't confident he could run it to the same standards!! Hopefully I will hear all sorts of things in advance while at baldwins and be able to provide you all with upcoming news in advance!!

Just saw this in a USA Publication A H Baldwin & Sons Ltd confirm the appointment of Neil Paisley as Managing Director. Neil joins Baldwin’s from Colin Cooke Coins. A familiar name and face to many in the trade, he has worked within the industry for more than 20 years.

Yes, its just great fun, Matt. Not to mention the 1861's. Many rare varieties to collect.

A wonderful collection Paddy there is some great history behind everyone of those coins. I know next to nothing about hammered coins so I won't comment on there quality etc. By my recollection of early English kings you are about half way to completing your collection, but I don't know if the likes of Sweynforkbeard, Edmund Ironside or Eadwig issued any as they were only around for a short time.

@PWA 1967 i think Swanny has good grounds to be pissed off. His Gothic has been scratched, he claims it was done by CGS, now if this is correct, it has probably wiped £500 or more off the value of the coin. If the shoe was on the other foot and one of yours was damaged by ANY grading company without compensation i'm sure you'd be rightly annoyed, especially if you'd paid £2500 or more for it. A company that sells and grades coins should have done the right thing and compensated for the loss, or even bought the coin from him at market value, but they decide that shutting the grading side of it down and now won't receive a penny...... Of course this post should be elsewhere, but i'm replying to something said here and it wouldn't make sense in the CGS bashing thread. I'm not interested in arguing about CGS or anything else, but try and take the view from someone who's valuable coin was scratched (i won't say ruined) but it will have decreased it's value...

Decent price for a decent coin, I would say. I bet you're having fun looking for all the 1860s

Obviously the more mistakes the rarer the error, but it shouldn't surprise people that they get through as there is not sufficient flan missing to bugger up the striking process, after all, the attached got though and that is missing considerably more of the circumference.
