Hi there. I'm new to the forum and looking for little help. Recently me and my girfriend visited the Royal Mint outside Cardiff where I had the opportunity to mint my own new £1 coin. After the tour (which we would recommend) we minted our own coin. I had never seen a new £1 coin so had a quick look at in the the protective case. It was a bit weird on the queens face but thought not much of it and forgot all about it. A couple of weeks later when the coins reached circulation I noticed our coin was a bit different. I went back to have a look and it seems our coin has an error. The back of the coin has been printed over the queens face. It's not a double sided coin as the queens face is there but you can also see a perfect indentation of tails side over the queen. The tails side is seems completely normal and highly detailed (I believe the tour guide mentioned the coins visitors mint are higher detail). Anyone hear of this happening before? Any clue how it happened? Pics to follow. Thanks

Here in the USA, I have bought a couple of coins from Atlas. Now, I know that they are generally on the pricier end - though not always - but postage is included in their price. What you see is what you pay. Personally, I find that policy to be very attractive.

Wow, a variety caused at the Mint by the coin's current owner! You should be proud - there's few of us can lay claim to that.

Here is my 1858 obverse. A mixture of barred and unbarred and nearly filled with some recutting to boot. Same die as either of yours?

I suspect that it must have been minted on January 1st or 2nd ??

I suppose "a very old penny dated 1912", might pass grammatical muster

Hi Guys I would normally put any error coins I have in the "Dies, Clogs, Et all" post. But as this is a foreign coin thought it best to post here. Thanks to another member of the forum, I have inherited some amazing new coins and am having some great fun researching and learning about them all. I wont mention the member directly in case he wishes to stay anonymous. Enough to say I am a very grateful and happy collector with hours of research and catolaguing to do. Massive Thanks agian . Anyway here is a great little coin found amongst the coins I recieved. It has a mint error but I have no idea what it would be called. Any help appreciated. Cheers Brian

I can't speak highly enough of Colin Cooke. Never been disappointed, and they are absolutely straight down the line, with every transaction. Bought quite a large number of coins from them over the years, and the service has always been friendly, honest, unpretentious and down to Earth, which is all anybody can ask. Pricing also very fair and realistic.

Will stick with Colin Cooke. Had a great service, no over pricing of postage and a really friendly service. Can see what your saying within reason Rob but not for the coins mentioned at the hammer price. Prospective in p&p relative to value is called for. As for paper work and a jiffy bag+ VAT to double postage!!!!! Sorry seriously cannot justify, especially after taking into consideration their high buyers premium.

Looks like CCF has a membership of around 45k. Maybe 70-75% North American, so let's say +/- 33k U S collectors using that site, and there's rarely less than 1500 active users at any one minute of the day. I think that ebay would not wish to p**s off any organisation representing that many American collectors, particularly when those guys always ensure that they get their facts straight before complaining. I'm just happy that they are not as insular as other US groups and will fight to protect collectors interests worldwide.

They aren't a genuine variety as such - unless you count clogged dies as such. There are very many such errors in the 19th Century. However some guides will list them so if they're in Davies (for example) then they're worth cataloguing as a variety, otherwise file them as a curio.

Sorry about your dad too. Rafa will probably get a decent reception at Anfield (a lot of mutual respect there), and I expect he may even get a big hug from Klopp of the Kop. (God I do hope we beat Middlesborough and prevent a last minute sneak - as so often in the past - by the Gooners into the CL).

No. The list would be constantly changing in any case. Wean yourself off eBay. You recognise there is a problem with fakes on eBay, so it isn't a great leap into the dark to leave a site which frankly doesn't give a s**t if listings are genuine or fake and try to strike up a relationship with a few dealers. You will almost certainly forego the ability to acquire a coin worth a hundred quid for a fiver, but you will have a no-quibble return guarantee in 99% of cases. Coins are effectively on approval.

Hi Declan, Buy them from a reputable bullion dealer. If there's something particular you're after Bullion By Post sell specific dates and mints. I've always found them to be very good and have had batches of sovereigns from them which, although sold as 'best value', have included Ed VII and Geo V coins in EF condition.
