Found 3 Edward pennies in the immediate area, bout 15 sq m, maybe a purse loss, if so my first medieval one

Maybe the cows and sheep have had good dentists in the past . This would account for the finding of them with a metal detector.

Noted as a variety for 1844 by Bramah (cf. p118, 57a), so possibly one of the earliest obverse dies for 1845 combined with a reverse die still intact at the end of 1844.

As I am only prepared to allocate a modest budget for my hobby, I try hard to avoid buying a coin just to “tick a box” or that is a low grade rare date or that is not visually appealing (either design or condition). This is precisely because if I do buy such a coin, I won’t get a big buzz or that “radiance feeling” as you put it. (Personally, I find it difficult to get excited with this QEII halfcrown design, no matter how rare the variety might be.) On a different note, I hope you will soon resolve this issue with the dealer.

The single dot is where the upper one of a normal colon should be so a filled die on the lower dot is the most likely reason for it not being struck up.

Acetone first. Then 1/2 strength ammonia with quick soap and water surface treatment to follow and then quick rinse with tamp dry. Always tamp dry with a high nap white cotton towel. NO RUBBING! It might take a quick dip in actual EZ-est or some other similar dip with the same light soap and water, and then more water rinse with tamping.
