And the reverse. There is a clear ermine under the acorn on this side. There is also a curve behind the top half of the 3 better seen in hand, which was a good match for a 1572 reverse die. Unfortunately that was 6 or 7 years ago and I've no idea where the pictures are now. I'm not referring to the area to the right of the 3 which looks like a 2, but is a rotated shield top and something else. If you want an alternative image it is Bole 1471, DNW 89, 29/9/2010.

Excuse the bits - colour picture, hopefully better for checking. Acorn over ermine on the reverse only.

I also reported it. Seems that multiple reports is the key.

This ploy seems quite effective if enough of us report it and bombard the suspect seller with curt messages.

Looks like a perfectly formed upper serif to me

Of the two, plain and crosslet, plain is definitely the most difficult to get in really high grade. They're both tough to find in that grade, but the plain is the more so. Also, like this specimen, if you do find one, it comes with other issues. I agree, a tad expensive considering the drawbacks.

I agree entirely. I run my Explorer II with virtually no discrimination, and rely on the tones and crosshairs position as the indicator in digging, and have had many hammies to over a foot. The other machine I use (of the ten or so I have) regularly is a cheap Golden Mask 4, very sensitive indeed to the tiniest silver coins. These two are very complementary. Jerry

I'd love the 1903 Open 3 if it's still available please Pete.
