My father was stationed at Hall Place / Bletchley Park during the war.... Later transferred to occupied Germany... He had NO connection with the code breakers, just army stationed there... I think he said his ability to type put him in good standing.. I'll have to ask him again. ..... Anyway, I just wanted to mention that Hall Place has an exhibit of wartime memorabilia which includes my dad's library card, images, and other items...

Well some people just have all the luck in the world don't they. Best I can manage is the odd pre decimal farthing or Euro two cent coin in my change for a penny . No wonder your collections so good paddy

North p.168 shows you the regional variations in style, so in answer to your question, yes, there is no standard form. According to him they were made in 19 regional centres, so whether at the local mint in this case is another matter, and I don't know the answer. For further reading consult Anglo-Saxon Monetary History by Blackburn and Lyon, pp.223-72. I don't have it. The style looks ok for the area. Winchester is the closest shown - which makes sense.

Indeed - older equipment is often more user friendly. Newer often seems to throw up unnecessary roadblocks which stymie your progress. I'm becoming increasingly wary of anything with "smart" in the title, as I like to have total manual control over any and all equipment. I'll decide what, when and where - not some inanimate programmed object.

Many thanks for the replies. Since starting this question I have started volunteering at a local charity and have been asked to go over the large tub they have of old and foreign coins, they don't really have a policy of what to do with them all, I was thinking of separating the British, bagging up the foreign in to 1kg lots for ebay, picking out the best British for individual sale and bagging the rest again for ebay.
