We all knew the police was under great pressure to find the culprits but it would be totally unacceptable if they had made the arrest without sufficient grounds. That would simply be an easy way out. I was one of those "stranded" and unable to fly back to Gatwick. The flight was eventually cancelled after a 10 hours wait in the airport. No worthwhile communications from the airline. Then the rule was that the airline had to find hotel accommodation for the passengers and get them there. Had no idea regarding the location or name of hotel when I arrived at 10pm. It turned out that the hotel was really rather nice and it was three nights stay before the new flight. Net effect was 2 more days of sightseeing and so it didn't worked out too badly after all.

No problem VS. Photos below. A nice and well struck coin all the same. I don't think I can tell the difference between currency and proof wreath crowns. If pushed, I might suggest that the rim is not that sharp. Top of ear is not that well defined and the 5 marks in the hair looks like contact marks with the rim of another coin which is more likely for currency. For this particular coin, would there be a significant difference in price difference between a proof an a MS currency?

As always it is demand that dictates the price rather than straight rarity. There are many more collectors for the few serious 20th century varieties than the far more numerous 19th century ones. A more modern example is the Kew Gardens 50p - some 200,000 made I believe and much more sought after and expensive than the 2009 Athletics 50p, of which only 17,500 or so were made. Similarly with the 1869 penny - for any date collectors, it is a must have and far more desirable than the endless minor varieties on the 1860.

Exactly on that last bit. However, I do think attractive high grade 1926MEs are very scarce indeed. Many seem to have toning issues or just something that isn't quite right. I regret that my own specimen has lost some of its original wonderful lustre that was still there in 1999 when I bought it. Some of the 62-64RB slabbed bits really are IMO just not there as examples...

I have 15 & 16 recessed ears, both in good EF but still looking for a decent filled 5 1915 though. I agree 1915 is harder - V R Court figures from circulation coins were 1915 277/2425 1 in 8.75 = approx mintage of 5.4 M 1916 921/4013 1 in 4.36 = approx mintage of 16.1 M So approx 3 times as many 1916s than 1915s, and you have to search twice as many 1915s to find one by comparison for other 20th C scarce pennies Court estimates the following mintages 1903 open 3 37,300 1908 F164a 55,550 1909 F169 23,200 1911 Gouby X 188,000 1926 ME 107,750 1946 dot 384,200 He didn't find any 1922/7, and no mention of the 1909 dot Good luck folks for finding any of these in top grade!
