I read somewhere else on here that the 2017 and 2018 £2 coins will not be in circulation, and I am pretty certain the Gruffalo and Snowman will also stay in packets. I have always liked to get one of each coin each year to stash away, but with so many coming out now that are not circulation, I will stick to circulation only in the future. As far as I am concerned, if it is never in circulation, it is not a "coin" just a gewgaw.2 points

If you can't see it, then it isn't. The last one I saw was obvious, but don't have a picture. ESC has a picture which isn't obviously 8/7. You should be able to see the ends of the lines, the angle or a straight line crossing through the 8 to be certain.1 point

It would be nice if LC would list the "unsold" coins in their prices realised. I suppose it helps the vendors if they decide to resubmit it though, people will think it's a fresh coin. Ignorance is bliss!1 point

This did happen in just one town- Kidderminster. I was 'helping' to run the school Tuck Shop, but of course was just there to go through all the change... The first turning up was a surprise, but over the months it was just bizarre. There was still a lot of silver in the change- I remember a 1912 shilling turning up, but it was the condition that was amazing- sometimes almost BU- blazing lustre, with all the other kids not seeming to notice...really odd.1 point

I don't understand why he is trying to dissuade bidders from offering higher than a pound. Surely the object is to raise as much money as possible.1 point

It is S1882, but Henry VI, not Henry V. Archbishop Kemp at York. The legend does match EBORACI, in fact you have the full extent of the reading with the letter bases visible. What threw you is the mascle after EBO. It being a pinecone-mascle penny, you get the symbols variously distributed in the legend.1 point

In the Coin Yearbook 2019 there is quite a good article about the decimalisation, a critique of the process which obviously is easier with benefit of hindsight. Don't have it to hand right now but I believe the article is of the opinion that having shillings & florins still around in 1990s was just a bit silly, and that the weight-to-value concept of coins should have been scrapped in 1971, allowing smaller & cheaper 5ps & 10ps from the off and therefore no use for 1s and 2s. Also would have meant the decimal halfpence could not have been so tiddly.1 point

That is the point, these Governments didn't like the result so they went back out with reworded options rather than respect the results. If the populous had voted leave again there would have probably been more referendums until they got the result they wanted, Kier Starmer on BBC this morning has said there would be only two options, either the 'bad Deal' or remain, already indications the referendum will be weighted towards remain. That referendum has been done and dusted, it should be respected whichever way you voted. The question should be Deal or No Deal. Calling it a 'Peoples Vote' only disguises the fact it will be a referendum rerun. Labours own 'Brexit' version is to stay in the custom union, stay in the single market and have a place on the top table for decision making..basically that is remain. it would mean accepting EU laws and freedom of movement, the two main reasons people voted to leave. MPs are pushing for extension to negotiations after 29th March, first it was a year or two, now it is only up until May. which seems conveniently aligned with the EU parliaments members election. The next General/Council elections will be interesting.1 point

Case proven there - even I have to admit that. Norway, on the other hand, made that much money that they are now the only country in the world whose population, and I mean all of them, can turn the lights off, lock the doors, go on holiday for a year, and when they got back, Noway would still be in the black....1 point
