Just read this interesting article in Coin news and was fascinated by the history of the coin in question and impressed by the commendable act of Auction house Künker in returning same to the cabinet in Weimar. https://www.coinsweekly.com/en/News/Alchemical-Gold-Coin-Back-in-Weimar/4?&id=5985 I must say that, having purchased several coins from them them in the past, their packaging and service is also second to none.

Great aren't they.😀 It's the only auction house where I actually keep the packaging. I think this is the packaging you are referring to? A pound of packaging to ship a 5 gram shilling, quality.

I concur - particularly like the custom large card boxes they ship multiple purchases in. The last one I got had a huge photo of a German New Guinea coin - almost more beautiful than what was inside !

Re. 3 over 7: Not sure to be honest. Even though worn, your coin shows evidence of having been struck from very tired dies. Might it be yet another case of chipping/cud?* Look at how obvious the overstrike is on Colin Cooke's coin, both digits are clear. Note also the horizontal bar of the 7 is in line with that of the 3. On your coin what may be an underlying horizontal bar is lower, and sticking out slightly on the right. *(Chipping Cud, isn't that one of those places where the entitled hold their kitchen suppers? )

Yes Mike i agree and as i mentioned all three are scarce / Rare in high grade.and Peck is not on his own trying to find a high grade 1946. Think you have more chance of being hit by lightning than finding two 🙂

It's the extreme scarcity in high grade which marks them out as very collectable, Pete. In my opinion at least. As you said, Dave Craddock has seen only one UNC 1946 ONE ' in nearly 50 years. That tells you they're as rare as hen's teeth in that condition. Probably rarer.
