Well after a protracted search, I've finally managed to locate and buy a 1918H with probably slightly better detail than most. At any rate, I think it's the best one I'm going to manage. The breastplate isn't fully struck up, but is not absent either, and there is some reasonable hair detail, which give the King's bald appearance on most 1918H pennies is a bit of an improvement.

I'd wait for the next issue coming out in the next financial quarter Struck on the day - 200 years since Victoria started to teethe and next year they're doing a struck on the day celebrating 100 years since the birth of Buster Merryfield.

New member here! Here is my recent acquisition 1937 Crown, paid around 34 CAD (20 quid) for this piece.

Believe me - finding a fully struck breastplate is very uncommon (except on the recessed ear varieties)! That's as good as it gets with a decent obverse. Lovely penny.

@Nonmortuus Couple that I have below - a bit of reflection and opening multiple collecting fronts doesn't work for me 😆 but they are just nice things in themselves so never parted. Sourcing them is trickier than it probably should be too I think, I assume in the past a lot of them showed up on eBay UK, so it got to routing through ma-shops and that wasn't the best place in the world to be either.

I must have seen it on their website too, but like you said, not good pictures. Nice find.

Thanks Ian. There is a bit of a back story to this one. I noticed this coin on Michael & Rendel Ingram's website a few weeks ago. I wasn't prepared to buy it at that stage though, because whilst it had potential, the photograph was appalling. As a former customer and enquirer, I then received a "how are you, is there anything else you are interested in?" type e mail from them. To which my reply was possibly, but could you send me a better pic. I received the pics below - still awful and they couldn't even be bothered to take it out of the plastic wallet. As a result I then asked if I could have the coin on approval, without paying the money up front. This was agreed to, and having then received the coin, decided to buy it. In hand it was good, but their photography is dreadful.

Also, don't forget that 2019 is the 20th anniversary of Chris Perkins' coin website - the Royal Mint should commemorate that as it's definitely more of an anniversary than the rubbish excuses they come up with to make money!

I hope it didn't damage your colon. Regarding the 1890 - interesting, thanks for sharing. Like Rob and perhaps many others, I wouldn't go out of my way to collect such a specimen - but if I had one just randomly, I would probably feel an extra bit pleased about it.

Hope this photo bucket link works This is my CH1 1633 cast medal. I’ve shifted away from currency coins to historical medals but still centred around the English Civil War...

Totally agree with Nons on the wordpress recommendation, I do exactly the same. It also helps with posting pics on here, I just copy/paste them into a reply such as this one! Here's another newbie I'm quite pleased with, could do with less bag chatter though ...
