Summer in Queensland. Although the article doesn't mention it the minimums over night are not going below 25 deg. C and the humidity is over 80%.

Yes, I paid a fortune for this 1961 penny with the date upside down.

Come to think of it, we should have asked for 02/02/2020 to be Brexit Date instead of the rather ordinary 31/01/20. (But I doubt somehow that EU would agree)

Nice. I distinctly remember looking at my watch nearly 18 years ago at 20:02 on the 20th February 2002. That was a triple palindrome in UK date format!

Definitely no more than fine for me.

You must have been Mike Macartney's best customer! Sold my 02tii after 20 years custodianship a couple of years ago. It was my daily driver. Never let me down.

A bit of a strange day today! First I found a cap full of coins, then I got chased up the road with a bloke with a guitar

It seems that the wear on these Victorian pennies can be quite uneven. In the example you quote the wear on the head is light and that part of the coin and is closer to EF. However looking at it again at the coin in question the wear of the Queens dress. It's too much for VF although the head probably qualifies for that description. but the notes provided by Allen in Grading British Coins say the pattern on the dress should still be visible but in this example the pattern has worn away. It the light of this I still think it's a tad above F so let's say F=/F.

After consulting Allen's Grading British Coins I would grade this coin as obverse VF and the reverse gF.

Sorry if I've burst your bubble, but that's only Fine.

For this date, simple identifiers I use; toothed border, no lcw and a straight exergue line above the date ( D and F slope up on the left) Reverse E only occurs in 1860, and has lcw below the foot. From 1874 a couple more identifiers would be needed. We are talking Freeman here, not Gouby. Jerry

The first one is in appalling condition, worn, battered and disfigured around the date. I would not want it in my collection. The second DNW one is at least showing more normal wear, and would be tolerable. Given they are not really ‘that’ rare, I think they are overpriced if in the thousands (plural). But I hope to get a decent one one day. Jerry PS and despite what I said a couple of days ago re the rugby, I do wish some success to England. I would at least like to see them prevent France getting the bonus point.😱

Missed out due to the website issues, which means I also couldn't book the SYO sovereign either. Regular customers really ought to get dibs before the hordes of profiteering riff-raff get a look in. Mainly because my profiteering is more important.
