    Yes, I paid a fortune for this 1961 penny with the date upside down.

    Yes, it is a very rare variety but haven't you just posted a photo of an ordinary penny? Here is the only known example.

    OK, don't get excited as it is only and primarily an edge variety with bevelled edges although there are some other differences. I got this from Spink in 1997 along with a pattern shilling that came from the Pretoria mint collection (did they retain anything?).

    About ten years ago I got all my spares together, just under 2 tons in weight, and we had a sale on the lawn at Mike's house, and what was left we sold to his daughter who had taken over the business. I had some rare stuff in there - we had two cars turn up from Holland for the sale..... Mike did a barbecue in the sun, and it was a great day.

    Come to think of it, we should have asked for 02/02/2020 to be Brexit Date instead of the rather ordinary 31/01/20. (But I doubt somehow that EU would agree)
