Finally managed to obtain a choice specimen F148 1897 high tide, after many years of one just eluding me. Private sale arranged with Cooper's Coins before it went on their website. Special nod to Pete for the heads up.

Then there's the one you can't tell in written form. Unless you try phonetically? There were thirtysiksheep in a field. One died, how many are left? To which most people would say "35" And you would say "No, 29" As their brow furrowed deeper, you would say slowly and carefully "There were thirty sick sheep in a field..."

Wow....I paid what I think is a lot for a nice EF one a few years ago, but mine looks like it was sent in, sent back, queried, lost, found, subjected to public inquiry, lost again, and finally buried in soft peat for three months and recycled as firelighters compared to your one!

http://britnumsoc.blog/2021/01/01/caveat-emptor-some-modern-fakes-of-henry-iii-long-cross-pennies-rob-page/ This BNS-Blog article is very concerning and mentions these items showing up on eBay. Furthermore, the Eastern European fakes cited are very convincing compared to others from that region that always seem to 'jump out' as counterfeits. This is worthwhile reading for all hammy collectors! Frank

Or the version I knew: "I'm not a pheasant plucker, I'm a pheasant plucker's mate, and I'm only plucking pheasants coz the pheasant plucker's late".

That one at least you have chance of getting right (or if not have a good laugh). The one I could never get right was: "The sixth sick sheikh's sixth son's sick."

A tongue twister by the sound of it! As in "The Leith police dismisseth us".

I just got lucky, chaps. Also, I've been waiting a very long time. It was expensive, but still a very fair price for something as good. They are astoundingly difficult to locate in high grade, especially as high grade as this specimen. Don't think I'll need to upgrade anytime soon.

I had one a few years ago in a transport cafe on the A5, which was like rubber. If I hadn't been so starving at the time, I might have sent it back. Another one of my Gran's old weather sayings: "if it thunders at all, it will thunder at Thurrock". No idea where she go that from, but I don't think it had any validity.

Hi Jerry, I think there are at least 3 different reverse dies for the F14, all with different, mutually exclusive, die flaws. Please refer to my 2015 post below. More Pennies - Page 29 - British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries - British Coin Forum - Predecimal.com

Well can I just emphasise I am not a nerd - my anorak is festooned with the coolest badges of course. Secondly, shouldn't that be pedant-in-chief?
