  1. Some people are really in for a shock when they come to sell on. I find it hard to believe that someone who is willing to pay over £300 hasn't educated themselves in such matters, after all it is not even a good fake. He also has an Elisabeth 1 sixpence which screams fake and now at £64. 'There's one born every minute' seems to hold true on eBay.

  2. I assume its the same as on the CGS website described as 8 Broken top and bottom ,although they have other date varieties for 1822 Farthings ,so must of been repaired numerous times.

  3. Interesting. The top of the 8 looks like severe damage, but the bottom looks strangely even with rounded bases, as if it's meant to be like that.

  4. Not great with Farthings but picked up an 1822 the other day and spotted that the date seemed unusual. Someone will probably now tell me that this repair is well known!!

  6. ....and nearly all at the bargain basement price of just 99p. Another interesting thing I've just noticed is that the negatives have reduced from 51 to 50, and the first one, which I noticed earlier as it was quite animated, and referred to a fake, has vanished. The "coin" fetched £326.57.

  7. He has it as a "Private Listing" so you can't even see the pattern to his shill bidding.

  8. Is it just me, or are the '3's' in the 1903 open 3 penny and the 1903 florin very similar? If any member has an example of both, it may be worth measuring the size of the '3', and if they are the same size, it's not beyond imagination that the open 3 penny occurred because someone picked up the florin punch by mistake? If this has been discussed before, apologies- this idea just occurred to me, and I can't find it in a search of the site.....

  9. You also have to consider punches used for medals

  10. That is very interesting, the ‘open 3’ punch must have come from somewhere in the mint’s stock, and it looks like they were using that font on the florin at least, even if not the same size. As you say, they need measuring. And possibly a look at Krause, as the mint may well have used that font for foreign coins they struck. Jerry

  11. I've just listed a 1966 Freeman 2nd edition on ebay if anyone is interested. It's under books, not coins, so usual searches may not find it.

  12. Or mine! More tarnished but maybe more detail?
