I sold this one in December 2015 for £870. Don't recognize it on Richard's site; apologies for not notifying sooner. I remember that I bought this Die 4 on the same day that I found an 1861 F27 on ebay; think that was my best ever bargain day!!

Mildly surprised that a coin of that class that isn't slabbed for protection from dropping onto hard surfaces and such like. Maybe the owner was worried it would never come back,or doesn't like slabs.

Gold doesn't tarnish. And gloves can make you clumsy. Dropping a coin like that is more risk than fingerprints to the edge that would clean if required.

Hard to tell on this date as so few were struck - even currency many times are quite prooflike. ESC/Bull really IMHO falls apart and gives R2 rating for the 1853/2. This in currency and even proof is a rare coin. Proofs come with plain and milled edges as well. Will look later on laptop.

Just spent the week walking in the Lakes. To put things into context, the owner of the B&B we stayed said he is going to shut up shop shortly for the winter and not reopen until March so that he doesn't have to heat the house. His heating bill is increasing 4-fold to £22K on a turnover of 60K, so it may be cost effective for them to move into rented accommodation for the winter months. In contrast, my supplier has just realised that we spend less than average on energy and reduced the monthly payments. We have always turned off the lights when not required, done full washing loads, used the clothes line rather than the dryer wherever possible, only heated the rooms we use, turned off things rather than leaving on standby etc. Judging by the claims of some people, I suspect there hasn't been a lot of attention to consumption in the past.

Go through the catalogue yesterday, but a bit fuzzy about grading of some bun head pennies...they said UNC, but i think it is not only 1 grade below it🙄

PINNY There is a nice example of an error which like the HAIF comes about as the result of the damage to the E in PENNY on reverse G . The E essentially appears as a PINNY and in the 1 I have it is associated with the Broken F in HALF The F almost appears to be a remnant of a P than an F

Yeah, it's well sub fine, but as you say, it's much better than most of the washers for this type.

Thanks Jon. That's reassuring to know. I've finally found Rob's post that I was looking for, which shows an example. I can't make out the 2 under the 6. More a 6 over 6. But I think that I can see the pointy end of the 6, above the centre line of the 2.

Reverse G there appear to be many errors in this reverse with accompanying errors on the obverse. I have tried to sort them into the following : REV G legend errors; r G date errors ; rev G with OBV errors; and OBVERSE errors. There are a lot so I am going to do my best to image them and show the errors rather than the the whole surface. I am happy to put up the complete image but the restriction in image size makes the process a bit long. unbarred H with broken Top E of PENNY with OBV 7 Unbarred H also with OBV 6

I think you've put a comma in there by mistake...
