Me neither, but I do so love these historic things! I bought a cracked plaster/mould of Elizabeth I from, I’m told, a GIII fire surround, that was subsequently framed in an extravagant Victorian black frame…I absolutely loved/and still love it! Also, looking through ‘the sale room’ for Elizabeth material, I stumbled across a couple of food boxes for sale in Wiltshire…how bloody amazing is that? Just to sit beside these wonderful things!

What fun the boxes are! Fortunately Elizabeth is well outside my collecting area so I don't have to worry about her! 😂 Though I have been slightly drawn to a couple of Charles II badges. Must resist!

Haha, thank you for your reply, very appreciated. Yes, the more I look at it, I do think it is a Richard II York Mint Penny which would be really nice. However I am still really keen for someone to pin it down, because as you said, I may also be two or three monarchs out! 😅

I no longer have the material to pin these things down, but if anyone collects in this area they’ll recognise it in an instant, there’s enough to go on, especially with that crude open crown. I’ll be interested to see what pops up, but the general feel of the bust makes it Richard all over to me? I could easily be two monarchs out, though, quite easily, maybe three!

I know nothing about these but what a pleasure it would be to own. Beautiful.

It looks to me to have been annealed and straightened, with a very satisfactory result. Jerry

I think it looks better repaired too, and it appears to have been done quite nicely.

Personally I prefer it repaired. A split coin, as well as unattractive, is difficult to store without the pieces constantly slipping. With coins of this age I am happy to have a decent example clearly displaying the monarch's name, and to have it at an affordable price when so many are now out of my reach.
