    Interesting. The date on yours is almost identical to mine. However, the non-wonky underlying '1' (yes clearly double punched on yours) is not - or barely - evident on mine, whereas the doubled 8 is, so is the 'twin tailed' 6, and the width of the numerals. It would seem to be the same reverse die.

    Generally the best place to find decent hammered is online with the better coin auctioneers and specialist dealers. Ebay tends to have them over-priced or over graded - when they are not fake. Henry II is more difficult to find in decent grade, but Noonan's have some nice ones at auction on the 6th September. (noonans.co.uk).

    Been collecting Republican Roman denarii for a while and now have an interest in Plantagenet coins, particularly at this stage the pennies from the Angevin kings. At this stage I'm looking at the Short Cross penny from Henry II. Where might the best places to purchase? I am used to buying my Roman pieces from online auctions. I aim for very fine condition. Peter
