There's that semicircular patch under the chin could be due to anything . I think I have said this before. When I look at my silver bits and pieces they start to tarnish (tone) after a month or so. How a 100 year old coin put away remain bright and shiny without some form of cleaning beats me. A obviously cleaned coin with abrasion marks is certainly devalued however a bright shiny 100 year coin attracts little comment for the most part while a toned coin excite some collectors although this is corrosion silver being attacked by oxygen and sulfur in the atmosphere in exactly the same way as iron and steel rust. Perhaps collectors are too picky with non abrasive cleaning such as Goddards or the Al foil/ bicarbonate methods of cleaning, I have seen coins with very heavy toning come to life with judicious dipping and IMO should not be considered as devalued in some way. Having said that any cleaning should be aproached with caution.

Just see the furore that has broken out on ebay about this! In just one day, over 150 negative comments and counting... https://community.ebay.co.uk/t5/Seller-Central/NO-LONGER-SELLING-DUE-TO-SIMPLE-DELIVERY/m-p/7813888#M717338 As I said above: And I absolutely rest my case. I will not be selling any of my duplicates on ebay any more. Perhaps I will indeed put a few things on the for sale and wanted threads here and just maybe in time we on the forum can build our own marketplace??

Just had an email from ebay saying that private sellers will have to use their 'Simple Delivery' facility with effect from 15th April. Allegedly it will exclude low value items (whatever that means), but hidden in the detail is something that can potentially bite sellers on the backside. When tracked delivery is used, the buyer can choose between standard and express delivery. That's the difference between say £2.70 for a Tracked 48 delivery, or £8.35 special delivery, where you would normally offer the cheapest option to make selling more likely and use it preferentially yourself. Doesn't look good for the seller of a £10 item. probably best to only list shite for a few pounds so that even their AI bot can recognise the limited value and allow cheap shipping accordingly. There are other issues such as ebay deciding what package size they think you will use and price it accordingly. ebay choosing the best value for money carrier is also not good. I wouldn't trust Evri to deliver to an HMO and get a signature for example. They just throw things over the gate. Life is becoming troublesome.

Well the one on the left has two circles of lettering on reverse, and is either a groat or halfgroat, probably the latter given its size though it is quite clipped. London mint and probably Edward III. The pellets between the letters of TAS are interesting. The other looks to me a penny of Edward I/II, bifoliate crown. But I’ll leave more detail to others better informed. Jerry

Yes, I feel it will only take 1 or 2 bad seller experiences to kill it all off entirely! I receive Signed-For AND Special Delivery items all the time, which haven’t progressed through the system properly…namely, I haven’t officially received them! Essentially, eBay’s new approach will require a hugely transformed Royal Mail for it to succeed!
