    gold coin

The sov in a mount will probably be worth bullion value too, as mounting coins is bad in the eyes of collectors. No matter what kind of mount it is, it would have caused irrepairable damage to the coin.

    Spink - Coins of England

I hope not, there's enough competition for the CCGB!

    Spink - Coins of England

I expect Lobel would want a massive sum for it, and it would probably need someone already in the coin trade to do it justice. Is there anyone with the time, money, inclination and suitability I wonder....Possibly not.

    Some really ridiculous eBay listings

Yeah, I know what it is! I've always had a link to prdecimal.com in my listings. I had had things stopped a few times, but only because I was selling something that was available cheaper by following the predecimal.com link. Maybe the rules are different there.

A link to your website would have been a good idea too....i didn't see one.

    Some really ridiculous eBay listings

Well if he gets that much for it I'll be very distressed, as I sold a better one with some lustre for just over £3000 late last year!

    gold coin

It'll be worth about £26 (bullion value) unless it's in perfect condition. Check it's a half and not a full sov...It should be about 19mm diameter.
  8. And what's this doing in here?

    Chavs!

You see them on the telly in Germany, on the day time equivalent of Trisha etc. They don't quite have the same dress code, but you still find yourself wondering why on earth these useless individuals don't get jobs and sort out their lives. Mainly I find myself wondering what purpose they have on this earth, apart from being exploited on daytime TV and being there to fill up council flats that should really never have been built (note: not all council flat tenants are chavs). Any of you people know East London at all??? (probably not). There's this building you see to the right when travelling down the A12 and a couple of miles from the mouth of the Blackwall tunnel (at one point it's in the same view as Canary Wharf). It is absolutely the most awful beige double block of council flats (joined with elevated walkways) that I have ever seen in any town of city in either the UK or Germany. It is my most hated building by a long way, and thousands of people have to look at it everyday when queuing to go under the tunnel. I expect it's full to the brim with Chavs! That area (which is probably part of Bow) has a large population of asian and black people. I've noticed that all the Chavs I've seen so far have been white. Do asian or black chavs exist?
  10. Use them as antique paperweights.

    Chavs!

I suppose there were Chavs at my secondary school in the 90's, even if they didn't have that name then. Although I must say that they were rare, probably only 1 or 2 per form group, and they certainly didn't have Burberry caps then.

    Spink - Coins of England

I simply wouldn't have the time I'm afraid. There are other books on the way though....Someone wants to do a GB hammered book for me, Conquest - Cromwell. If that one goes ahead it will fill the gap before Sylvesters.

    Chavs!

Upon my recent visit to the United Kingdom, I heard this word being used a couple of times too. I asked my good friend Neil about its meaning. He said apparently it means something like "Council Housed And Valueless". So yes, the ones you see walking round with there socks tucked into their shell suits, with baseball caps and hoodies is probably fairly accurate.
  15. Ok, good point, I'll try to make my status clearer from the signature and notes at the side. You add pictures by using the "You may attach a file to this message." prompt when you post.

    1897

I sell average sets 1895-1901 for £3.00: http://www.predecimal.com/forsale/coin_spe...cial_offers.htm So £1 for a single is probably too much.
  17. That's alright, just do what a lot of people do... Use my time and expertise, and then don't even consider selling the coin to me! Nothing personal, but you're not the first to do that, and it's a little annoying that so many fairly clueless non collectors choose to list coins on ebay instead of selling them to dealers, like me. Any chance of at least a link to the ebay listing, and a post of the picture?
  18. I was just contacted by the President of the London Numismatic Society, who got one of my fliers through the British Numismatic Society, and wanted one of my books. We got talking about varieties, and he was actually in the same room as C Wilson Peck when he wrote his bible! This man knows about varieties that were not included in the book because although Peck was sure, the examples were too worn and he felt they could not be included just in case! Since then, he's published papers, and really knows some super advanced stuff. He lives in Kent, not far from SE London actually, where I once lived, and he invited me along as his guest to the next London Numismatic society meeting (but I can't go, it's in early feb) He said he'll get the book, and give me a call so we can talk about what should be added. He even knows about decimal varieties (and has a 1983 New pence 2p) He said that there has never been a book that lists all the varieties for copper/bronze and silver and I said I'd like to be the first to publish a complete book if he's willing to help. CCGB2008 will be double the size at this rate!
  19. I think I sold a 'Fair' one for £35 last year. But don't my word sight unseen. If you register you can post a picture.
  20. If it's worn it'll be in the lower range, possibly even less then £50 (I've certainly sold them for less than £50 in the past)
  21. I've changed my avatar because I quite like comical looking cows. In fact, I've liked comical looking cows as long as I can remember, but it only just occured to me that a comical cow would look pretty good as an avatar. The cow in the picture is '929' from near the Strangford loch, Co. Down NI. I was staying once in a farmhouse behind his field and I took my camera to search for comical cows. Out of the entire herd in the field, 929 was the only cow to show me any interest, in fact the others all backed away when I went anywhere near them. So as a change from Dee Snider, you'll now have to get used to me as a friendly cow instead. (929 was of course, the number on the plastic tag attaced to her ear)

    I'm a Cow now.

Careful JMD, you'll go blind! Perhaps I should censor this area.

She has those too you know. Nice little ones in perfect proportion to her petit bod.

    Picture's awful, impossible to tell.
  25. A lot of them are pretty worn, so I'm sure they were. Possibly until 1869 (I think) when the Victorians collected in all the copper after replacing it with bronze.
