Nope, they're unofficial and have been gold plated at some point.

Well done! By the way, what country is the top level domain .tk ?
-
Well it was indeed launched yesterday, in that it existed for the first time. I called the printers on friday and I will go and pick them all up tomorrow. About 400 copies are already sold, all of those are in quantities of 10's to 50's and will be sent mainly to coin dealers and a metal detector shop. A few will also be going to Vera Trinder and Barrington Smith (wholesalers) and they sell to book shops and other coin dealers. 80 will be going to the USA. As yet I haven't heard anything that positive from a major national bookseller chain, but I find it's easier to talk to those people when you have something to show them, so early days! I'll also employ the usual tactic of buying some of the books myself to massage orders and get more of them on shelves. I expect I'll also be calling WH Smith branches pretending to be someone else and asking them to call me when they have a copy in stock (and then never going to pick it up!). In fact as I didn't write this book I may as well pretend to be myself this time. I will of course be asking once again that the fabulous forumees can help me with this task.

I don't have a Magnentius coin, how much do you want for it?

Spink prices are often high, especially compared to ebay, and unless the coin was £160 from a reputable dealer, who knows exactly what grade it is. £160 seems fair enough for UNC, perhaps high for EF. So if it's in the middle you're probably ok. So that's quite dodgy then, a copy of a certificate and he has lots of them! Don't pay more than the coins value which is £85 in EF. Vicky Sovereigns are funny things, they start at £50ish, sometimes about £70 for VF, £90 for EF, and then they shoot up to £300+ for UNC! But if it's less than a perfect UNC it's not worth anywhere near the top price. I wouldn't pay more than £60 for it personally, frankly I wouldn't buy anything sold as a novelty item. But my 1871 Sov, which really is UNC, really is very beautiful, has the shield rev and is available to you for the forum member price of £230 (£30 off): http://www.predecimal.com/forsale/gold.htm No novelties, no rubbish, and I'll take it back gladly if you don't like it!

Yes, for a customer. I also had a Victorian 1898 Half Crown that I sent back, because it had an ugly blob of black toning on the otherwise perfect reverse which bothered me for and 'MS65' (or 66 I can't remember). I couldn't see that in the picture, nor was it mentioned in the description.

Yes and just to add to that the short story of the plain edge proof George IV Half Crown I bought, which turned out to be a milled edge proof, because the slab made the edge to hard to see! There's an awful lot of hype on Certified Coins and it's all aimed an ameteurs and investors that think they can make a few bob quickly, and without first gaining the proper knowledge in a subject. Personally I don't think a consistant profit can be made within any investment area that the investor himself knows little about.

I've just listed some stuff. Some South African and general odds and ends: http://search.ebay.co.uk/_W0QQfgtpZ1QQfrpp...ssZchrisperkins

I'm a Cow now.
Chris Perkins replied to Chris Perkins's topic in Nothing whatsoever to do with coins area!
Ah yes, I remeber that. There was me thinking I was being original. Cows are so funny aren't they. -
Exactly right Oli. Nevermind how they are 'Novelty packed' (and i've told you about that before BJofW) at the end of the day they're really only worth 'coin' value in my eyes.... And probably most other people that are slightly in the know.

I expect you'll want one of my books too? And what goes on in here actually can affect what goes in this book: http://www.predecimal.com/books/ccgb2005framed.htm

Coin fairs are something that tends to be very under-represented online. Some are mentioned here and there, but frankly they're marketed badly. I don't know about things down there in Somerset, but if you can get to London today, before 5pm there's a massive coin fair at the Holiday Inn, Bloomsbury. It'll be there again on the 11th June 2005, and on the 5th November. Organisers are simmonsgallery.co.uk

Yes, I could do that. If you can make a BACS transfer of £35.00 to reach me before the 11th I could certainly do that (or Cash on Delivery) email me on cp@predecimal.com for bank details. Thanks,
-
Yes, it's still lead sealed as they were new. None of them were airtight, but all the coins certainly are as new. Where are you located? I'll just be in the UK myself from Feb 11-17th, but I could leave them with someone for you to pick up on in March. I don't mind taking them to you if you're on the way somewhere.

Pennymad, I've got a bag in Kent! Rochester to be more precise. I was selling them for £90 a bag to an Italian magician, but he seems to have disappeared () What have you seen them go for? I also have 2x £5 bags of 1966 Halfpennies.
-
And personal delivery too Geoff. (It cost me £165 last summer at a London Coin fair. And it's just been sitting around eating up capital!) I'll email pictures, or setup a new topic.

Oh my god! This one just keeps coming back, and to be perfectly honest (no offence apotek) it's pissing me off now. It is, as you put it, one of those urban myths, and frankly the British public must be the most stupid and gulliable groups of people in the world! They love a good urban myth don't they. Well, frankly it's boring now!

You should try and get the 1972, as they're the only British coins issued with that date except for the 1972 crown which also came out as a separate commemorative. I now have the 1950, '51 and 53. I'm aiming for the 1937 when the finances allow. Geoff Geoff, I've got 2 '37 Proof sets. One is like new, the other has very nice coins in general but the case is 6 out of 10. £275 for the nice one £180 for the not so perfect one
-
I don't think this went anywhere.
-
I haven't looked, but knowing Krause they probably got the decimal point in the wrong place! I have the same thing with a Panama coin, but it has to be an error, no one would pay $125+ for a VF 10 Ore, would they?

I'm a Cow now.
Chris Perkins replied to Chris Perkins's topic in Nothing whatsoever to do with coins area!
Cow You really can't see the cow? Or are you pulling my hoof? -
I'm a Cow now.
Chris Perkins replied to Chris Perkins's topic in Nothing whatsoever to do with coins area!
I rest my case! Cows are comical, people can't stop themselves making cow jokes, and it's so easy and yet so effective. No wonder certain religions have sacred cows. -
I'm a Cow now.
Chris Perkins replied to Chris Perkins's topic in Nothing whatsoever to do with coins area!
You can't see the cow? It's a big cow nose, as it almost sniffed the camera. The black area in the upper left is the black nose and there's an ear with a small tag in it, on the udder side -
I've merged these subject, now I think they're not the same coin in question?

2005 Sovereigns
Chris Perkins replied to Emperor Oli's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
You should have seen this place when he'd finished! He'd added the same message to the ends of about 10 different topics and I had to ban his IP address and email him a 'bollocking'! I asked him about some coins, and he never got back to me either.
