  1. Do you mean Lauer JMD? (The maker in Nuremberg) The toy type are really ridiculously tiny and are usually dated 1848, so I suspect that's what you have.
  2. At first I thought: They sound like the Joseph Moore model coins. Struck as an idea in the quest to reduce the size of the coins without reducing the intrinsic value. None were official, but they were made in large numbers and do seem to have seen circulation. But if they are very very tiny, then JMD is probably right. Someone point Roger to the recent similar topic on toy money...
  3. That's one of those replies that men like to give about 90% of the time isn't it! Just like: Q: 'Do you have any children?' A: 'Not as far as I know' (nudge nudge, wink wink)
  4. Yes, unfortunately everyone who finds a coin dated before 1971 (or better still, with the Reverse upside down!) thinks they have something special these days. Leave me alone, i'm trying to make a profit!
  5. Then it's a farthing: http://www.predecimal.com/britishcoinsiden...ntification.htm Despite what your wife may say, size does matter and when identifying coins millimetres count. If it looks average, like this one: http://www.predecimal.com/forsale/7/farthing1843.jpg Then it should be worth £2-£4. If it's worse, it may struggle for 50p, and of course if it's better it'll be worth more.

    Some really ridiculous eBay listings

No wonder I don't sell any of mine for Buy it Now at £3.00: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...item=3932390518 I have enough Edward pennies to make quite a few sets, and they take me no time at all to put together.

    Some really ridiculous eBay listings

With his foul langauge and with John Prescot as his mentor, i'm sure he'd go far!

    Some really ridiculous eBay listings

I emailed him asking exactly what it was that he was selling, because the image, title and description seemed to conflict with each other. I also asked if the picture was of the actual item for sale. No reply, but he has ended the listing.

    Coin Capsules

A likely story Well it doesn't bother me, it was bought as bullion.

    Coin Capsules

Oli: I can get them on their own, but they are the expensive SAFE type, and work out about 50p each. I think it makes sense to have 10 for £3.00, and if you want to spend £10.00 you can get 3 lots of 10. I think perhaps the ecomics and the time involved in sending out capsules will stop me from doing that on the website....But if you fellows of Predecimal want singles, from now on it will be so. HPJ: Yes, got your package, still having trouble getting the 26mm capsules from Lighthouse. By the way, did you notice the certificate refers to a 2001 coin, whereas the coin is a 2000? If I have no caps by Tues I'll send the 2 coins and the last 10 caps I have.

    Coin Capsules

They're very snug (especially the newer halfcrowns) in my Lighthouse 32mm capsules, but they fit. I always go the extra mile for my customers colliewalker, I'm sure I could have sorted something out for you. I can get the SAFE caps individually (although more expensive than the lighthouse 10's), I just chose not to offer them that way....Perhaps I should.

And if you look at his response to his latest negative feedback, particularly the negative he left for the person that last left him negative feedback. His language proves to me that he is probably a really foul man. (or woman, but that's unlikely)

    got the bug

Phillip, You'll find my grading's usually pretty good. Did you get the farthings yet? There is a lot of rubbish on ebay being sold by a lot of people that haven't got a clue. You'll be alright with the well established websites like this one, and, oh I couldn't possibly name any others!

    Toning

I find they sell better when they are completely untoned, so make sure you're fussy and specify untoned sets if you can.

    Ten Shilling banknote

I've found that note in 'Collectors' Banknotes' too. Shame it's a bit of a mess because they go for over £300 in Fine! It's known as a Dardanelles Campaign overprint.

    Radio Show

I only just found this post. Did you JMD, Wow. So you can pick it up right down your way too. It's surprising how far out it goes on AM.

    I want one of these

Must of been one of the phrases I picked up from living the first 25 years of my live in or around London!

    UNC or EF?

EF coins are nice, so are UNC coins. Collect what you can afford and whatever you like the look of. The WWII plane thing is all very well, being a bigger far more complex object with so much more importance and relevence than a coin, it's only right that one with bullet holes and battle damage would have a more interesting history than a new one. (Although I do have a Double florin with bullet damage!) I think that each UNC coin that has not been spent despite the massive temptation is a small miracle.

    I want one of these

Yes, I should have it in my mits for a short while. Perhaps short enough to take a picture of if I have my camera to hand! Thanks for the info, I know they are like rocking horse droppings in BU, even in EF!

    I want one of these

Guess why he's ended the auction It shall be mine, but not for long as I've already sold it! Interesting info Custard, in fact if you have other info about BU 1869's, like prices realised etc etc I'd be glad to hear, because it will be good to tell my buyer.
  21. If you want to advertise or link exchnage, contact me personally. I don't feel there is anything on that website that is not over priced and very common. It therefore would be of no interest to the serious numismatists that frequent this forum. This topic will be removed in 24hrs unless someone can put up a good argument for keeping it!

    1902 One Penny

Yes, I think many were made for that purpose. Although at one stage I think Lauer were just showing off their skills by making tiny intricate accurate replicas of British coins! I wonder how many Victorian children ended up swallowing them? I have a tiny collection of tiny coins, I don't think they sell for all that much. Like with all coins, an example in mint condition with full lustre would be far more desirsable than an average example. There's probably a book on it somewhere. I'm afraid I hadn't paid much attention to your posting times! I'm an expat living in Germany.

    1902 One Penny

It is, it's a Lauer toy or model coin. The German company made small copies of most British denominations.
  24. And is Iranian a language, or do they speak Arabic?? I don't know. I like what you did in the other section JMD, that's why I made it a bit more official, but with respect, you don't really know all that much about Foreign or Ancient coins, and now I have to take the time to go through making your unofficial rules more official! Like I said before though, i do like your enthusiasm.

    I want one of these

He offered me that, and I thought he'd wait until I got back to him before he re-listed it!
