Those rotten Athletes always seem to be trying to get one over on the drugs testers, as more and more untestable varieties seem to be emerging. Might as well just let them all use drugs, and the winner will be the one who used the most or best drugs! -

Well actually it wasn't my idea. If you look, Marles already has bi-dates in the 2004 CCGB, and has done since the early 70's I think. It's especially helpful for those people that get confused by Roman numerals, and I know there are lots of those! -

Right, corrected those. I better get on with adding some pictures. By the way, pleased you liked the Roman numerals in the Gothic florin section becaue I paid £22 for the font, just to use on 2 pages! -
Help Required - Coin ID?
Chris Perkins replied to a topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
The first is a Maria Theresa Austrian Thaler (A popular request). The date was 'frozen' long ago, so the coin is probably very modern and worth about £6.00 for silver content. The second is a Churchill Crown, made in very large numbers and worth £1 at most if it mint condition. -

I would hazard a guess at: Lots of the worlds best athletes! -

Yes, by all means, sort into groups, let me know what you have and perhaps we can do a deal taking postage into account. -

For the pre 1946 Silver I pay 4x face value, for post '47 'silver' coins I'll pay 75% of face value and for the copper bronze it depends how good they are. Sometimes I pay up to 20p per readable Victorian penny. Problem is, unless you have an awful lot it's difficult to offset the cost of posting. Where are you located? -

Steve, WRL stands for Westland Reproductions Limited and, as the name suggests, they make reproduction coins. I think they use a process which involves sticking the 2 sides together. The coins are generally sold on card backings at castles, tourist attractions etc. Sometimes of course, they get separated from their original packaging. You're not the fist to ask about WRL coins, and I'm pleased we spotted it before you put it on ebay and potentially sold it to a novice for more than it's worth! -

Chris Perkins replied to rattybags's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
Yes, that looks like a copy from the edge appearing to be 2 coins stuck together, and it being too round looking. As it isn't really ancient, I'll move this topic to the British Coins area. -
Just for the sake of it:

Yes, I thought about resurrecting the titles just fun. -
The database so far as Excel file
Chris Perkins replied to Chris Perkins's topic in Rotographic Publications Forum
Some people have emailed lists too and it doesn't really matter how they get to me. If you have a chance to enter them in the database at least they'll be in one place. -
Here is the CCGB2005 database so far, without peoples email address, in excel format, indexed in alphabetical order by denomination: http://www.rotographic.co.uk/hosted/May04-080804.xls From this, you can of course see what I already have and not bother harvesting it! If you don't have excel let me know, I can bodge up a text file.

If any of you younger members want to show your dedication to the Rotographic cause by having a 'Rotographic.co.uk' logo on your mobile, PM your mobile number and I do believe I can zap you one across. (Be aware that it will replace your current logo permanantly until it is overwritten with another one)

Geordie, It's a shame there is a distinct lack of ancient coin knowledge in this forum. You could ask my mate Richard at www.coinsforsale.co.uk. He has lots of experience with ancient.

The feedback looks genuine, the seller probably is too. Looks like another case of a seller than knows nothing about coins.

Almost, it's really for coins that you've bought or have seen sold at £X. As you can see JMD, Oli, HPJ etc have entered coins they've bought and a few coins they're seen sold on ebay. It's just a general database to help out with the book prices. Combined with Marles prices and your individual price scouting it all helps out. JMD: What do you mean it's tatty!!!? It looked worse than that before I tidied it up and it doesn't have to be pretty. You're 14 now aren't you....At that age -

I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't an exodus a plural version of exit. I.e. more than one thing exited? I know I'm being a bit of an Oli, but you only lost one phone so it can't be correct. -

My sister managed to drop hers down the toilet before. She 'borrowed' dads until hers dried out, but it never worked again as far as I know. Let me know if you find it. -
US Silver Dollars
Chris Perkins replied to colliewalker1's topic in Enquiries about Non British coins
Denis, I'll get back to you after breakfast about the Crown email! (I was thinking of putting you onto Crowns as an interesting parrallel at least, to foreign coins ;-) but you seem to have managed it yourself!) -
The time has come I think, for us to gather as many British coin prices as possible. The database is ok for general stuff, but it would be great if those of you that want to could look specifically for price data on all the Brtish coin types. I thought about something like this: Farthings, Oli (and fractionals) Halfpennies, HPJ Pennies, Custard1966 and JMD (including Catwheel 2d) Threepences/Groats Sixpences, Sylvester Shillings, Aethelred Florins, William Half Crowns/Crowns. Geoff T Decimals That's by no means set in stone, so lets discuss who wants the other denomination here, and of course if you are happy with your assigned denomination? You can get the info to me however you like, via email, post, over the phone, whatever. All info should include an accurate grade, the date, any valid variety info, and if possible who sold the coin and when. Oh yes, and remember, I'm just concerned with copper 1797 onwards and silver 1800 onwards. I do also want proof data.

Ok, lets get price collecting...
Chris Perkins replied to Chris Perkins's topic in Rotographic Publications Forum
Oli, If you do an advanced search on ebay you can choose to see the items that have sold, so that will reveal probably new useful farthing prices daily. Sorry I missed your question. I missed a lot when I was in the UK. I want to try to not make this book an average of a high book and a low book unless that's absolutley neccessary, and thought to be accurate. I know it won't be possible with everything, but it would be good if the prices are what people are paying. I'll make a note this weekend to offer the rotographic database as a download, so you can all see what's already there. -

Chris Perkins replied to Chris Perkins's topic in Rotographic Publications Forum
I have the Marles prices, which I will also factor in (probably). The prices will not be changed until I finish the actual book, and I'm up to Edward Florins in text, and The cartwheel 2d in pictures and text. So it's going to take me another few weeks to get finished without the prices (although I'm getting hard into it lately, the Oct publishing date is getting closer and closer) So, do it as soon as you can, but obviously don't get an ulser.
