    Your cover ideas please.

Looking good so far, I'm just concrned if it will be A5 size and at least 300dpi.

    Your cover ideas please.

Well you have to don't you, no one cares as much about your business ventures as yourself, and if you don't try your hardest to promote them, no one else will.

    Your cover ideas please.

Yes, I had spotted the link, and It'll be good to say on the inside...'Cover pictures: Florin sold by prececimal.com, £2 sold by Predecimal.com on the date....blah, blah.

Don't wory too much about the bandwidth, as this is an 'exclusive' area, not many people get to see it, and it is for the good of the project. Is it Collectors' Coins, or is it Collector's Coins.....I don't know, my English was always crap, didn't Geoff say it should be Collectors' Coins??
  5. I've been asked by the advertising manager of Stamp and Coin Mart to send his editior (and him) a press release all about the CCGB2005. I think it basically has to sing its praises, give my contact details, inform them of release date etc etc. They want to help market the book (I suppose it makes sense, as competitors of Coin News, and with no annual price guide of their own) I've never done a press release before, anyone got any previous experience?
  6. I thought we did it for the same reason as the French, but not because of them. Bronze is cheaper than copper and the coins were reduced in size to save money too.
  7. I think you'll have to be a little more accurate with your sizes Bob, as farthing and halfpenny sizes changed sizes a few times from 1799 - 1967. Millimetres would help.
  8. Probably some kind of advertising marks, or what's left of them. At that time many merchants stamped coins with adverts so as the coin circulated they would get free advertising. Or it could just be graffitii, that's common on coins of that age too.
  9. Dear Storm, I have one of those too! As it was a mistake, it's not clear how many there are, and the values of them are patchy too. I have no idea what mine is worth. I'd be pleased to take a chance and buy yours for the same price I bought my other set, which worked out around £250 (I bought it was a lot of other normal sets).

    Roman Coin

Well it isn't, I've got 2 of them. They were commemorative coins and the date is about right. I've seen fake ones so watch out. For a real one, Reverend Plant says £10 in Very Fine condition. (Reverend Plant is a leading ancient coin author: http://www.rotographic.co.uk/currentcontrib.htm)
  11. I've merged your topics bob, as the threepence one looked alone.

    Proofs

Blimey, you want the moon on a stick you do! The GB proof sets are all worth around £4-7 each if they contain untoned coins and are as issued. I'm afraid I don't have time to look up the 'foreigners', perhaps someone else will.

    help

It's a farthing, not worth a lot if it's worn/in a state. I have one around about Fair in the next newsletter for £1 I believe. If I can ever find the time to send it out!
  14. I'm sure I've had pre Soviet, Latvian 1930's Lati before.
  15. I was thinking about changing the look and name of this whole forum to be the 'Rotographic Forum' and linking to it from www.rotographic.co.uk and from predecimal.com as it is now. I thought that perhaps a discussion forum would benefit the people that are looking for books on the subject, and I could eventually re shuffle things and perhaps provide forums for each book title, in order to get input and just for people to discuss that subject. Essentially it would be the same place on the same URL, but it would be the 'Rotographic forum, hosted by Predecimal'. I think it can only compliment the Rotographic website, and help promote the books to people that would perhaps prefer to have a little chat with one of us friendly lot. What do you think?
  16. Chris Perkins

Now what do you think of this idea?

I'd thought of that too, but Rotographic is also pretty well known (I think, although I modestly admit, probably not so much as predecimal.com among web surfing circles). So I don't want to get rid of either name. In fact I quite like the name 'Rotographic' too. I also like Rotodecimal!! Ah, the many problems with empire building.

    help

Nor did you know the correct place in the forum to put this question. I'll just move you the the 'Enquiries about British coins' part.
  18. Chris Perkins

    Your cover ideas please.

Wow, I like that very much! Can you produce one that's A5 size and at 300dpi resolution? I think that's wonderful. Big clap for William.
  19. Chris Perkins

Now what do you think of this idea?

I think that the people visiting this forum may well be interested in the Rotographic website, so the banner will stay in it's current form at the moment. I may decide to change the look of the forum and make a rotographic link in the blue bit at the top.
  20. I have a similar Irish 6 Shilling forgery on this page: http://www.predecimal.com/forged/georgeiii.htm And I have heard about BoE Dollar forgeries. Value depends on how much someone would be willing to pay for it, as there are no price guides on the subject (now, there's an idea!!). I would expect anywhere from £10 - 50 depending on exact state. Perhaps less if it's awful.
  21. Chris Perkins

Now what do you think of this idea?

The forum is hosted in my own space on my own database. I have to pay an annual fee for the hosting, and a little extra because of the extra bandwidth use, that I hadn't planned on, due to the popularity of the forum!
  22. Chris Perkins

    Schön catalogs

I'll get a price list, and list them here. I thought about putting them on the website, but thought the fact they are all in German would render them hard to justify the time.
  23. Chris Perkins

    Schön catalogs

Kuhli, Yes, of course I can get pretty much all the Schoen books in my local book shop, and I believe I can also get them from SAFE (one of my suppliers) if I ask nicely enough. I can also send it to the US at book rate which sometimes works out pretty reasonable. Shall I make enquiries about the latest 1900 - date edition? I have a feeling they are split into centuries like Krause.
  24. Chris Perkins

Now what do you think of this idea?

This one was also free, providing a keep the invision link at the bottom. I'm not happy with creating a little out of the way forum in the nothing to do with coins area, because that isn't strictly true. The subject matter of most of the books is very much to do with coins. And I don't want to set up a new one because of the time it takes to get these things established. I'll think of a way of integrating the two sites into one forum :s. It won't suddenly go pear shaped for you lot, so son't worry. When have I ever let you down?
  25. Chris Perkins

Now what do you think of this idea?

But you lot need to have nothing to do with the book questions, if there are any. Essentially it will be the same forum and we'll still get the same kinds of people asking the same kinds of coin questions. At this stage I'll at least link to this forum from rotographic.co.uk, and perhaps I'll create another forum especially for the books. I suppose I ought to get the bloody things finished first! At this stage I must admit that I'm embarrassed about the current CCGB2004. The banknotes/Irish and Roman tend to be printed to a higher quality, and I can live with those, but do you know I almost cringe everytime I send a CCGB2004 to someone, hoping it won't put them off buying my very own 2005 book!!
