Your cover ideas please.
Chris Perkins replied to Aethelred's topic in Rotographic Publications Forum
I heard from RJ Marles today, he asked if I wanted him to do the 2005 as usual and suggested he put the new Four Minute Mile 50p, The Fourth Bridge £1, and the Steam Loco £2 on the fornt cover!! I politely decilned and just asked for his price data. I know that it for some reason has been a tradition to feature the latest coins on the front cover in recent years, but for gods sake, they look poo compared to some of the older designs, and frankly who really wants to know what the new coins are worth, when it's already fresh in their memory what they paid for them. I think quality older coins are what's needed on the front cover, doesn't have to be anything that valuable, just a nice old BU something. -
Another Groat... sorry

I don't know much about hammered coins, but I doubt a real one would state 'Henry Tudor' on it. 1485 was Henry VII, but I think all the legends were in latin, so 'Henricus', not Henry Tudor. I would suppose it's a modern repro, but don't take my modern milled orientated word for it. -

Thanks Geoff, done those. I had to OCR a copy of the book to extract the text, as it was quicker than using the stupid DOS programme that RJ Marles had the files on. Some of the errors have been caused by the software reading the wrong letter, and me not spotting them. -

What would be your dream coin?

I had an Anne 1713 Pattern farthing.....Sold it. -
Well as many of you may of guessed, I was away last week, mainly to attend the wedding of my Uncle Peter (Mums brother) but I also slipped in a quick BBC 3 Counties radio phone in while I was there. I was on, inbetween the odd other subject for an hour and a half and I think it was certainly one of the best phone ins. The caller/email volume was pretty high and the questions were answered easily, and dare I say it, some were perhaps even slightly interesting. I also had the opportunity to put the listenership right about the 2p rumour after someone asked about it. Hopefully DJ John will send me a CD of the programme so I can then use up huge amounts of more bloody bandwidth sharing somewhere on the website as a feed/download. Other news: I was elected as a member of the British Numismatic Society. Ok, so that sounds impressive, but as far as I know, anyone who can read and write, isn't an axe murderer and has £33 per annum to spare can become a member. Although I did have to list the name of a referee (not a Swiss one!!) and I think the fact that I listed 2 existing members, one of which was formerly on the comitee probably helped somewhat. The BNS welcome new members, especially younger ones, so check out the link on the home page. More Other news: Just to show off, I have found another 3x 1934 Crowns to pass on to my 1934 Crown buyer. I should also be getting another 1936 soon, which is also a pretty rare one. And it's my birthday tuesday, I'll be 26, just in case anyone cares

Freeman says it's R17 (Probably 16-50 examples)

Right, I got hold of a copy of Peck, and the Micheal Gouby book, so I've been able to put the Peck numbers with great consistancy next to all the copper coins, and the Freeman numbers next to the bronze pennies. I've also implemented most of the changes that were suggested by you wonderful wonderful people. Like before, ignore the price data, and bear in mind some of the pictures are still circles: http://www.rotographic.co.uk/1-25.pdf (It's about 2mb now) So far even with the inclusion of the extra George III coins I am at less pages than the equivalent part in the 2004 edition....So perhaps I may be just about 1/3 of the way through. If you have a local copy of pages 1-21.pdf please delete it, it has now been superceeded and should no longer see the light of day.

I have a spare copy of Peck's 'English Copper, Tin and Bronze coins in the British Musuem 1558 - 1958'. It's the 2nd (and latest!) 1964 edition. I thought I would offer it here for a few days before putting it on eBay. Price £95 (+ £10 fully insured postage) email me: cp@predecimal.com

Favourite line in a song?
Chris Perkins replied to Master Jmd's topic in Nothing whatsoever to do with coins area!
I like: 'And we'll basque in the shadow of yesterdays Triumph' (Roger Waters, Pink Floyd. Shine on you Crazy Diamond. Wish you were here album 1975) It's a great line, and I have a little sticker of it on the back window of my Triumph TR7. Other motorists can basque in my shadow! -
The finals on sunday...

You must be joking, have you seen that Russian girl? She's like Kornakova (spelling?) but more attractive and actually pretty good at tennis! I'd like Portugal to win the football, I'm not a sports fan, but it would be good for moral in Portugal if the home nation could win the whatsit. -

Or perhaps Switzerlandia! (No, it's Helvetia, or I seem to remember an alternate spelling of 'Helvetica').

Tim Henman's out of wimbledon...
Chris Perkins replied to Master Jmd's topic in Nothing whatsoever to do with coins area!
Houses are cheap up north aren't they, what is it? £10,000, £15,000?? -
My client certainly has the required financial backing, and he wants to obtain at least 100 of them, with my help.
-
You have to be very rich to persuade me to sell any 1934 Crowns that I might get! I have a customer that buys them all off me, I have supplied (or am in the process of supplying him) 9, and I believe he has about 30 altogether.

Tim Henman's out of wimbledon...
Chris Perkins replied to Master Jmd's topic in Nothing whatsoever to do with coins area!
Hardly anyone wins Wimbledon 2 or 3 times in a row, so even though Tim has never won (and isn't getting any younger), at least he's consistant! I take my hat off to the man, that's certainly more running around in the sun than I'd like to do. -
I think we're fine the way we are. We're not 'the other forums' and without copying them, I think we have a quite lively, different place anyway. We don't need news, you lot are always posting something different every five minutes. These things take time to build up, and as new regulars come on board the amount of variety will increase.

I'm pleased to have added 'Coppers' to the Project CCGB2005 today. -
One from Spink, one from a dealer I can't remember who, and yet to be confirmed is another in a recent auction that I bid very high on.
