    Is it a coin

Well you could sort most of them out yourself with 'Collectors Coins GB 2004 (or the 2005 edition if you can wait until I finish it): http://www.predecimal.com/books/ccgb2004framed.htm (give a man a fish and he'll eat for a day, give him knowledge and equip him and he'll eat for a lifetime!) You'll probably find that most of them won't be worth very much if they are circulated/average. The gold coin will be worth a few pounds for bullion value, but it depends on what denomination it is (size in mm needed).

Any other coin sites you browse?

Over a year ago now, I started setting it up in May 2003 and 'turned it on' in early June, hence my membership date.

    Ronald Reagan

I have no respect for any modern leader apart from perhaps Churchill and Mandela. All the world leaders were and are all very good career politicians, but they just do/did the job they were elected to do (with the exception of George W Bush who wasn't even elected to do it!). Many other people would have done about the same if they'd been there instead, and a lot of what they do is dictaced by international and 'people' pressure anyway.

In fact I've noticed a few features and ideas that have cropped up on other websites after I introduced them first! Not naming any names.

Maybe the idea had something to do with me being the youngest and most dynamic professional coin dealer Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure Colin introduced his after mine.

    Ronald Reagan

From what I hear GWB's speech was as usual, historically inaccurate to say the least. He compared the second world war with Iraq by stating that they both started with a surprise attack on American soil. Really of course WWII started with the invasion of Poland, continued with the battle of France, Britain, lots of battles on the Eastern Front, and then the Japanese attacked what some people call a somewhat complacent America, bringing them into the war. I thought that as usual Mr Bush showed his narrowmindedness by saying that, and that the reference to Iraq was very out of place. Back in '44 there was no doubt in anyone's mind that those soldiers were doing what was morally right and essential for the freedom of Europe. In 2003, in Iraq there was far more doubt than oil! And I to am too young to know, but just because Regan was probably not as stupid as Bush doesn't mean he was a good president, does it?

Good to know this is the best for British. I think it's certainly the most useable, not that there's any thing wrong with Cooke's, but I think this one has more features, and a more modern feel.

    Mine or William's

And Napoleon has a much better beard than Victoria.

    Mine or William's

We're a bit biased in here aren't we. I voted French (no offence William) because I see Jubilee Crowns every day and just fancied a change. Both are attactive coins, but if I was not French or English and didn't know where either of them were from I think in all honestly I may be inclined to vote the French coin as more attractive! The jubilee bust is not my favourite, although it doesn't look too bad on Crowns.

    The London coin Fair

No, I already had that. I picked up 2 of the 1934 Crowns while I was there. One of them was arranged, the other was a surprise, and one I took with me! I sold those 3 the next day before I jumped on the plane (which was 4 hrs late by the way) I also grabbed a few little things with customers in mind. And I have my own Peck now, (I won the 1970 on ebay, so I'll be selling my 1964 2nd edition soon). I also met Mr Gouby to purchase one of his 'Bronze Penny' books.
  12. As you know, I've been busy lately converting the current Collectors' Coin Great Britain book into a modern electronic format, so that it can be updated soon to create the 2005 edition, and of course updated annually with relative ease. I have completed the text to page 11 at this stage and have gone back on myself to put a few pictures in. So far page 4 is the most complete, so here it is for you to see: http://www.rotographic.co.uk/page4.pdf Ignore the price info, that's out of date. Check out the pictures! You will notice they are full colour and can be enlarged many times before quality is lost. The printed version will of course have greyscale images. (Perhaps I could make more money offering the pdf as a download than the actual printed book!) Based on the size of that single page, and bearing in mind I'll probably go over 80 pages, the finished book in pdf format will be probably 15-20mb in size! So what do you think about the font, look, feel etc. People like you people are my customers, so as always, your opinions count.

    Rotograpic.co.uk P2

I have the 1964 edition, it's small compact (and smells of old book). I'll certainly dig mine out for ideas.
  14. Chris Perkins

    Your cover ideas please.

That's a great cover Dead King, but I want to try to keep the price well below £8.00, and I'm not sure how much a colour cover would add to the printing costs. Of course, in an ideal world I'd love a colour cover, and I'll certainly look into it. The 'The choice of dealers and collectors since 1973' has to go! Sounds way to yank and makes me want to puke

    The best place to start

I am interested in hearing everything, about anything. You people (or at least your sort...And I KNOW your sort) are my future customers so I want more useful feedback on everything. I'm already chuffed about what I have found out already, so any sensible ideas will be incorporated, if not this time, then the next.

    Rotograpic.co.uk

Eventually the site will live at www.rotographic.co.uk, but for the moment you can find the incomplete working progress here: http://www.coinvaluation.com/rotographic/ Let me know first impressions.

    Peck and Freeman

Chaps, I know there are 2, maybe 3 of you that have copies of peck and or freeman. It has been suggested that I should put peck no.s for all copper coins and freeman no.s for all bronze. In the current Collectors' Coins books that information is patchy and I don't have either a Peck or a Freeman! Would any of you be able to send me a Peck/Freeman via insured post to borrow for a couple of months? I know that's a tall order, and I'm sure the book gets lots of use, but there's no harm asking and I'd look after them. Also, if anyone knows where I can purchase them, that'd be great.
  18. You heard it here first! You lot are the first to know, so keep this under your hats for the time being. The news that I was just itching to tell you will indeed involve you all (if you want to play a part) and I hope you share in the excitement I feel about this project. In a nut shell, I will soon own Rotographic publishing, the publisher of Collectors Coins GB 2004 and most of the other books I offer on the website. Any of you that already have any of these books will know that they are basically sound books, if a little out of date in some respects and slightly lacking on the actual printed quality. The current owners are 78 and 61 years old, and they feel it's about time someone younger took the reigns and left them in peace! The best part is that the books are already sold in large numbers, and have plenty of scope for improvement. Another bonus is that I will be having them printed here in East Germany to cut costs and sending them to the UK suppliers myself, which among others include WHSmith and Waterstone. I have to arrange a few things financially, and my first job after that (in fact I've started it already) will be to create a swanky rotographic website (rotographic.co.uk). Your first job will be to give me feedback on that website! (rotographic.co.uk is currently setup to point at predecimal.com) The next Collectors Coins Great Britain book (2005) is due to be worked on soon, for its September/October initial print run, and I would like to get the next major issue under my belt before I make any major changes to the content/layout etc of the most important title. So, the 2005 edition will be written by R J Marles like usual and then edited by me, before it is printed here in Germany. What I would like you people to do is help me with the research for the coin prices in the not too distant future. I would really like to, as one of the first priorities, update the Collectors George III coins, which hasn't been worked on since 1998. I'm afraid I cannot offer you hard cash or anything like that (believe me, it's expensive enough already!), but anyone agreeing to help out with the research into a particular coin type or date range will of course get mentioned as a researcher in the book, and will receive free copies of all 5 of the publications that I will be taking control of. This is a wonderful business opportunity for me, and I really think there is potential for a steady increase in the sales of these titles, especially if the quality and consistancy can be improved. Please do tell me what you think.

Beware of these ebay sales pitches

Well fingers crossed, I seem to be doing ok so far. You have to keep moving in any business, and I have been doing that. Seems I have a new major profect every month (much to the delight of my girlfriend). Early days yet, but I have invested a lot of time and money in this, and I certainly don't think I'm the worst coin dealer in the world. (we seem to have strayed from the topic as usual!)
  20. I see, well if he isn't sure on the matter, there's no way I give a useful opinion on photo alone.

Beware of these ebay sales pitches

This is it! Believe me Jmd what I do everyday in the 'coin industry'.... compiling the book, boxing up accessory orders or books, or coins, updating the websites, keeping check on you lot, answering emails, sending cheques, moving money around and many other tasks, I wouldn't have time to do anything else even if I wanted to! I am a professional coin dealer, and that is all I do (if you include the book this with that, as it's related). There are very few people that can say that is all they do, but I'm one of them. HPJ: The Bespoke coins belong to someone else. He'll be there but I think he's buying, not selling.

Beware of these ebay sales pitches

I have plenty to take that I have resisted listing on the website, in the hopes that I will sell them and not need to. All British, nothing remarkable. Apart from 2 High grade 1934 Crowns, but they are sold.

    Ebay blacklist

Ok, good idea, but don't add people that just annoyed you for some reason, or people that sent you a rubbish coin but acknowledged the error/grading error and fully refunded you. I want to see the worst of the worst so to speak, and preferably sellers that sell coins regularly. All ebay id's deemed as being 'bad eggs' must have a reason associated with them, from your own personal experience.
