Yes, you're right. I do know someone with highly specialised hammered coin knowledge, and I think he would like to write a book on the subject, perhaps starting with something general, but advanced stuff like that wouldn't be out of the question.

Custard, That sounds a sensible addition, can you list all the fixed values for sources of coins that you can think of? Most people have already been putting 'ebay' or 'Colin Cooke' etc, so it's generally easy to tell what came from where. Often the prices you see and the prices you pay are two different things. I always give little discounts etc and I'm sure other dealers do too. Perhaps I will add a distinguishing choice, like 'Coin seen at price' or Coin bought at price'. That would give the scope for the database to be added to just from browsing online lists and I suppose that would fill it much quicker. Ok, I'll make some db changes soon.

It should just be a case of me copying the page, changing the wording, and creating another database. I'll probably do it when Rotographic is properly in my hands. At the moment the new (and first) website also benefits the existing owners and I don't really need to do it until the books go out with www.rotographic.co.uk printed in them. No one except you lot will probably see the website before then! (By the way - There are already 28 different coin records in the database, so well done chaps)

Master JMD, It will be the first edition that I was involved in, but it will actually be the 32nd edition of the book. I don't mind signing them all for fun if you want me to deface them!

The current owners have confirmed receipt of my deposit for the Rotographic publishing empire So it should be 4 - 6 weeks to get the rest of the finances and stuff sorted out, before everything is under my control *evil cackle*. I've also been getting quotes from local printers for printing the titles too, and that works out reasonable when large numbers of books are printed. I haven't decided what to do about distribution yet. It may be an idea to send most of the books to the UK to be posted out individually from there. That would mean I could lower the postage price charged and make them even more irresistable.

Just because kuhli could only find evidence of a 1981 edition, doesn't mean that was the last one printed does it! I think the last one may have been printed as little as 3 years ago, but it isn't a big seller. In fact, probably the only book that sells more than 4,000 per year is Collectors' Coins GB, so it's important we disregard the stamps/Roman/Irish/Banknotes and just consider the layout of the Collectors' Coins book (perhaps mixing a bit with the Collectors' George III book). It's great to get all this feedback, and I particularly like the idea of kuhli's to put a feedback form in the book somewhere to try and ascertain what the 10,000+ buyers of that book actually want. I will seriously consider that one, and will indeed implement many of the wonderful suggestions so far. Keep up the good work, but please don't stay, it's pointless talking about other stuff, in here, at this point.

What are we going to do about that one, does anyone on here collect stamps? Don't worry about that one William, it's the least of my worries.

There have been more over the years so I think I'll inherit a couple of unfinished books (One of which is Collectors' Roman Coins part 2 which covers silver Roman coins) and there's even a Stamp book too, but it never really took off.

Oh dear, the usual 'We found these coins in the vault that we didn't realise we had'. Who is this Alan magician that seems to make coins appear from no where? And that's bordering on mis representation too, because it's playing on the 2p New pence rumour. It almost (to the untrained eye) implies that the 2p's with 'New pence' on them are rare: Very misleading for ameteurs, and anyone that buys those coins at that price (or the other price :s) should not be collecting coins. I would hate to think of someone buying those for a gift for someone too. That is outrageous, do Coincraft actually have anything that wasn't either commissioned by them, or that is available in large numbers?

That had crossed my mind too, especially when I looked at the entire page of Victorian decimal patterns, milles and so on! I wondered if any of the 13,000 people that own this edition, actually own any Victorian decimal patterns? So how do we feel about leaving out the mega rare pattern/proof coins? In a way I'd like to put them for completeness but I do understand that they are not the relevant, certainly most of them. Plus the fact that the higher value and the rarer the coin is, the more difficult it is to put a price on. I'm not sure.

Some overdates you cannot spot unless you magfify x10 so although highly unlikely, it cannot be ruled out. More than likely if there is anything there, it'll be where one die blow failed to register with the other and caused an 8 with two bottom circles, or something like that.

Yes, and the main task isn't to capture the coin in full glory. It would be impossible to illustrate every type, so the pictures are just to add effect really, to break the text.

I think colour would be too expensive. I have an American coin book with glossy colour pictures in and it looks wonderful, but the most important thing is that I get the customers because of the low price. The images in Spink are greyscale and fine, I'd hope for something like that.
