  1. The Guinea is. Rest of the gold are commision sales for a gentleman in Barnet.
  2. I'm afraid i didn't get a chance to renew my latest ad with: 'I have £100 to spend on coins this week' Or some such Coincraft spoof, but it's still top priority for the next one. I think there really needs to be less hard sell and stufiness in coin dealing. We need a little lightheartedness, humour and pehraps a little Rock 'n' Roll at the same time. I wonder if the Darkness would endorse me as their coin dealer of choice!! I can picture it now, an image of glam and spandex, with 'I want to spend £100 on coins this week'. 'Predecimal.com, coin dealer to 'The Darkness'! That sounds pretty funny, but I have certainly learn't that most coin collectors are not into trendy music, and that many coin collectors are young, so perhaps that would be a big market to tap into with 'Rock 'n' Roll Coin dealing'
  3. There I am at the top of the list. It took a lot of effort to get there, hopefully I'll stay there for some time.
  4. He's a well known dealer, used to work for Spink i think, and has published books. Search on Google, I believe he has a fledgling web site.
  5. Mark Rasmussen had the 1952 Penny didn't he? But he was auctioning it, so he probably has it no longer.
  6. No, the book covers everything, Celtic to Now. You're probably thinking of the equally well put together 'Collectors Coins Great Britain 2004; I've got a fine 1791 Guinea, is that up your street?
  7. DAS, Sorry, I think I may have acidentally removed your membership during a period of housekeeping a while ago If you re register as DAS I'll bump your no. of posts up. There are some quite big differences between price guides aren't there. They all claim to get their results from dealers lists, auction results, market feel, independant experts etc. For my coins I rarely charge the full Spink prices (except for very rare of choice sought after coins). From what I have heard, many regard the 'British Coin Market Values 2004' as showing more or less the most accurate prices in most instances, but of course others say differently.
  8. You really need a good book or 2, Master JMD.
  9. William, the jury was out on the 1902, I think it was a Maundy one, if it's the one I think! Master JMD, you've probably got a normal 1914 Threepence. Maundy ones are usually very high grade (because they were never spend) and look prooflike, often toned darkly from being in their cases.
  10. Hopefully the next newsletter will go out this weekend, or at least part of it, as I have a lot to do still. Maybe during the week depending how the scanning goes. You are on the mailing list already are you?
  11. The case is not original, they were never supplied in those, I would expect that is from the 60's. 1943 and 1944 are hard years to get in respectable grades. I hope you like it when you get it.
  12. You sure it isn't just a normal 1914 Threepence?
  13. Thanks William, I had'nt seen that yet! Free advertising, marvelous.
  14. In the next newsletter will be 1795, 1956 and 1898 Maundy sets. Prices around £100 for the newest 2, which are as struck, in original boxes. And around £500 for the 1795 which is uncirculated-BU and about as nice as you'll find.
  15. Driving cars is all very well, personally I prefer owning them, and not giving them back.
  16. Here's a picture of one. The coins are so bright that they don't scan very well.
  17. I bought about 30 1964 Kennedy Half dollars as part of a collection. I have separated the very best coins, and have 14 BU coins. I'm offering them on eBay for £3.50 each, or £3.00 each for forum members. In case you didn't know: The 1964 Kennedy Half was intended to be a commemorative but proved so popular, they still produce them now. 1964 was also the last year that the USA used proper silver in coins. The coins are .900 fine silver, 30.6mm in diameter, weigh 12.5g and contain .36 of an ounce of pure silver. £3.00 each, I only have 14, and 5 of those are already on eBay. PM me, or email cp@predecimal.com Thanks,
  18. Good one Geoff! I don't know if the young chaps here have morgan bags, in fact what they do at the weekend is none of my business. I still am not convinced there is any need to publish myself online. I'm sometimes around in real life, Tom Goodheart has met me, and so have a few customers at coin fairs etc. i'm not ashamed or anything like that about my appearance, I just fail to really understand why you lot need to see me. If i thought it would significantly increase sales then I would be pleased to show my honest eyes. Have a look at this wonderful picture of Mr Morris, who I used to live quite near to in the UK. Tell me if you really think the sheer quality of that picture, combined with the highly professional pose actually helps Mr Morris get more sales and/or credibility: http://www.peter-morris.freeserve.co.uk/im...ris%20Staff.jpg (Don't buy anything off him, I'll hang you for treason )
  19. Yes, that is very true. In a few years of eBay trading, quite intensely at one point, and all the sales etc from the website, I really must say that numismatists are generally very honest and trustworthy.
  20. Don't email her, reply in here and make her jolly well come back and look! Who does she think we are, a private coin valuation service! It's a discussion forum for heavens sake Value is around £11.00 for an 1838 Cent in fine condition, much lower if it's lower than good, and much higher if it reaches EF.
  21. Yes, actually I have a proof 1970 Penny and Halfpenny Master JMD.
  22. Yes!! I think I will start using a pocket piece, it shall be an 1858 two Konekh from Russia! I think that's probably a 2 Kopek William. You cannot directly convert the cyrillic letters into their nearest looking western version.
  23. Yes, of course you can, as long as it isn't made public, what goes on behind closed doors is your business. But don't send endless messages, think of my bandwidth too!
  24. If you break it open you'll probably end up dmaging it, and all the coins will instantly start toning, especially the bromze. It'll always be worth more as it is, providing the coins are not toned.
  25. Couple of good points raised, i'd go along with those! Maybe I'll send autographed photos to members or something
