  1. Right you are then. You may find scanning it works better, if you have a scanner.
  2. You should be able to post a picture here using the 'You may attach a file to this message.' option when you post. I know that reproductions of that kind of thing exist, and they are usually crude. The real thing should be real silver, and the fact that it is clean and shiny is not good news even if it is a real one. Need to see a picture really.
  3. I think the numismatic term 'Uncirculated', although it does have a slightly different literal meaning is just fine as it is. The confussion comes from people trying to sell coins that know nothing about the subject or how to grade them. They are either people that haven't taken anything on board at all, or are after a quick few quid (and rarely successfully). It does of course lead to you wasting your time looking at crap on ebay that's been mis described in the title, but ebay make money regardless, so you'll always see crap, wrongly described in the title...Ebay don't care about wasting serious collectors time, as long as they get their commission, nor are they expert enough to alter or take off dodgy/time wasting listings. That is the problem with ebay, they are non experts, as nor are most of their sellers. But I imagine it's like that with every specialist item field sold on ebay. I have been thinking for a while about starting up a purely coin online auction house. The software is easy enough to buy and set up on a server, and I would ensure that no rubbish was ever listed. Unfortunately I don't have a big enough audience to really do that with any success. Anyway, in an ideal world, 'Uncirculated' stays, and the ridiculous sellers offering tosh, go!
  4. Thanks for the info Geoff, But my Dad is still very much alive and kicking and as the date is 3 days out from my birthday, it isn't too important to me, really! Ok, so what do these usually go for then? Just so I know how securely to keep it. Chris
  5. Once you pop, you just can't stop! Glad you liked it, thankyou, and thankyou to everyone for taking part.
  6. Well about the most you can do is find out about the coins themselves and assume that the jewellery attachment was made around the time the coin was I suppose...Unless any attachments have hallmarks. Are they British coins? Jewellery have been made out of coins for Millenia.
  7. Bleib cool chaps, There is no prize and I have removed a few useless posts in the past (and still do), so it's probably well over 1000 already, if you count the ones I took away.
  8. Well is that right! I wonder what my Dad would think if I sold it!? Erm, exactly how highly sought after are these then? I suppose he couldn't possibly object if I cut him in. It looks like it's been cleaned at some point though, hairlining is evident but it does have a very nice tone. So who would have been given this then, a civil servant, or someone like that?
  9. Well it's actually almost back to the original look, don't ask me why I changed it to that orange version, anyway, this is how it will stay now. I aim to please. 'Have a nice day' (I hate that)
  10. Made a major change to the default colour skin, so the signatures now work unless you have the orange/white skin selected. Chris
  11. Ok, those of you that had the orange/white looking screen before will find the default is now this grey/blue look. I did this because I wanted the whole page to be used and the signatures seem to work with this look. The layout has of course remained identical, only the icons have changed, but they should be even clearer now. You are still free to choose the orange/white skin for your view, if you prefer, and this can be done via the 'My controls' area. What do you think?
  12. Do you know the same thing was happening to me, but I hadn't noticed when highlighting it appears! I'll look into it. It may be a problem with the orange/white skin that's being used, and if that's the case it might be a difficult job. I'll be back. Chris
  13. Well, anyway, we seem to have wandered somewhat!! For the folks at home, this topic is actually about that poor chaps David II Scotish Penny, shown at the top! Chris
  14. Like it! Impusive while you spent a good hour umming and ahhring! (as my mother also says...perhaps they knew each other as kids ). Love it. Chris
  15. I don't think they are you know, but as they are also worth the same face value, and in sterling, I don't really see why not. They weight the same, and I've hid them in bags of UK coins and paid them into my bank account before! I do believe you can even openly pay them into some banks accounts. Also, vending machines seem to readily accept most of them! I'm not even sure if they are 'legal' in the countries of issue, because strictly speaking the Scottish/NI bank notes are not even legal in Scotland/NI, but they are overlooked. It's a funny subject that one. I think they represent a localised form of normal British currency in the country of issue, but of course no one wants them on 'the main land' purely because they are not sure what they are I suppose. I'd love it if someone could tell me the official line too. Chris
  16. I'd use the trading descriptions act with that one, and demend he sent me the 3 coin gold Britannia set shown in the picture! They just waste space on ebay for when your actually looking for a serious item. Chris
  17. Oh dear! What are you like! Pop 2 stamps on it and put it in a post box, that'll do just fine. Chris
  18. My x18 magnification lenses do the trick perfectly...Shameless plug: http://www.predecimal.com/collectors/shop/9849lens.htm
  19. Mish, Can you have a quick look at my list of tokens here: http://www.predecimal.com/forum/index.php?...t=ST&f=32&t=167 I'd like to know how much to price them at, what do you think? Chris
  20. With any luck someone here will point you in the right direction. I don't have books or knowledge covering that area.
  21. I haven't confirmed it yet, but a woman has contacted me who seems to have found a Queen Anne Guinea in her change while rummaging to donate to a church collection box ! Now, it could of course be a forgery or token of some kind and of very little value, but if not, that has to be the change find of all 3 millenia ! God does work in mysterious ways Chris
  22. Well in my 1984 Seaby 'Coins of Scotland and Ireland' book it says £35 in Fine, £100 in VF. I have yet to invest in the latest edition but imagine the value has increased somewhat since then. I'm also no good at grading hammered at this stage in my career. if you want to sell it, ask my friend Richard at http://www.coinsforsale.co.uk , he knows his stuff. Chris
  23. Thanks Geoff, I look forward to hearing from you again. My Dad gave it to me one Birthday because it had a date on it very close to my birthday (29th June) Chris.
  24. Geoff, I have a 1902 Coronation medal, with a ribbon on it, do you know what that is? It has the King and Queen on one side and the Royal mongram with the date 26 June 1902 on the back. The whole thing is in a wreath that makes up the rim and a loop is attached to a crown. Appears to be silver. Attached to the loop is a ribbon with a red centre stripe with 2 thick blue stripes next to it and then white edges. Bad picture below:
  25. That's Dee Snider in drag, of Twisted Sister. Ok, not anywhere near as pretty as Kylie by any means. I just fancied a change. Chris
