New Royal Mint 2004 Issues - Have you seen them?
Chris Perkins replied to Emperor Oli's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
Yes of course, and they want to appear to some degree 'trendy', younger, new, and not stuffy like perhaps some people think of the Royal Mint and anything to do with the government. Most people don't care what they see on the back of the coins in their pockets, but I believe the people that do care, don't want unknown bridges. I'm sure they are very nice bridges, and there would no doubt be lots of people stuck on the wrong sides of many rivers if it wasn't for those wonderful bridges, but there are so many fabulous building and bridges that have never appeared on coins. -

You can't unless you are registered, and perhaps you should just email it. I have also edited your above post slightly, I know it wasn't offensive, but lets at least pretend to keep it decent in the public area! -

Average. Well, at least there is some variety in the designs which is more than can be said for some country's, but they could have picked a few bridge's that people have heard about. -

Ooooo, well, I am a man of mystery and I feel that in the coin game, why should it matter what I look like? If you believe I am an honest chap and know what I'm talking about to some degree, why should you need to see who you are buying from, or asking info from or reading something written by. I hope you can trust me without seeing my honest eyes! I look at some websites, and when I have images of the people behind it thrust in my face I find it often off putting. For example, without wishing to be slanderous, form your own opinions of the people behind Lighthouse GmbH: http://www.leuchtturm.de/dt_staff.htm Clearly, some very handsome men, and very pretty lady's there. I thought about it, but cannot see it improving my business or giving me any more credibility. In fact, I'm pretty young, and feel that perhaps if some 'Older school' collectors saw me it might have an adverse effect and actually reduce my credibility with some individuals. Right now though, although it isn't me, the avatar isn't all that far off -

I have a few of these beautiful posthumous George V Half Rupees available for only £6.50 on the website (in the specials area) but....Wait for it....£5.00 to Forum members. They catalogue around £15-16 UNC. Email me: cp@predecimal.com, or use the Personal messenger thing. -
Hello Olli, I do need to sometimes delete pointless messages left by people passing by, and re locate messages put in the wrong areas etc. You're right though, generally you are a nice bunch, but especially lately, after the re structure I do want to make it easier for the visitor and ensure that things are in the right places, and I often re name topics so that it's easier to tell what information they contain. At the moment, with 40-60 max posts on a very busy day, it isn't too difficult for me to manage. Certainly if it continues to grow then I will need help and will allow longstanding members to moderate areas, if they want to of course.

I think Geoff T is your man, over to you Geoff!

Clearly a dot there, but the coins looks around Fine, so if Custard is correct, then possibly worth a fiver. Unless you can find someone that really wants it.
-
Yes, I'd be interested to hear what you find.
-
Thankyou for the suggestions. I think right now the people that buy from me are not all that intent on obtaining obscure varieties, but certainly in the future I think I will need in depth books like those.
-
Wow, very advanced Copper/Bronze talk! I'm afraid my library doesn't yet go that far.
-
It may be slightly more interesting for some collectors, but I wouldn't say it gives it Edward VIII status! In fact you may find because of the flaw it won't be as desired, unless it's a major cock up. Welcome in here anyway, and please do post as much as you like.

Photographing coins
Chris Perkins replied to Geoff T's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
I have a pretty low quality digital camera, so at this stage I always scan them, which is of course usually ok for modern milled regular shaped coins with low relief. I scan them usually at 300dpi and find I have to brighten the copper/bronze coins when they are not lustrious. I have trouble with high relief items, like the ancient greek coins and some medals. All the basic info I have, is to get a good camera with as many mega pixels as you can and mount it on a tripod to keep it steady. My friend Mark Rosner was fab at taking pictures of coins, and they can be seen here: http://www.predecimal.com/forsale/choicecoins.htm Unfortunately he is no longer with us, to share his secrets. -

The English Silver Coinage since 1649
Chris Perkins posted a topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
English Silver Coinage - since 1649 By P. Alan Rayner, published by Seaby, London. For all of you with an advanced interest in British milled silver coinage, this is a must have book for dealers and collectors alike. It contains illustrations of most obscure pattern coins and of course all the main coinage that was used. It also gives a rarity scale for evey single known date, variety and pattern for every single Silver British coin from 1649 right up to and including Decimal. It also includes a very detailed history of British milled silver by reign, from then to now, including lots of info about who designed what and all the goings on at the mint during that time. Learn about Octorinos, 12 Groats, Predecimal Tenpences and lots of other coins you had no idea existed! I'll post here if I can get supplied with these books. -
Coin Manage 2003

dta, That's a very good point....They are completely rubbish at responding to emails!!! I have asked a few times about why I don't get my commission and I sometimes get a reply after a week, and I'm still waiting for a reply to my reply! In fact because they're so crap I am considering stopping promoting their products on my site, as it isn't very rewarding in more ways than one.... I asked how they would feel to being sent the results of this forum about how they could improve the package and have heard nothing yet. Absolutely terrible. I'm talking myself out of even trying to help them fast. -

I know the kind you mean....A talented chap re modelled all the monarchs since the Victoria veiled head (his initials are under the bust) to be featured on a set of commonwealth coins for an African country I believe. But they didn't get used, and instead a series of pattern coins were made, like the one you have, in 2000 using his very good portraits. In fact a woman contacted me once who thought she had a pattern GVI double florin, but it was one of that range. -
