Collectors' Coins Great Britain 2006 Edition

The open 3 looks like a completely different 3 to me.

Yes, there are pics in Gouby's book....I described them a little incorrectly above. Normal 3: The lower serif of the 3 points at the top serif. You could imagine joining them up with a short line. Open 3: The lower serif points at the top of the '0'. The top serif is also more opened and they don't point at each other at all! I shouldn't think he'll mint if I scan and post his pic, but I better ask first.

    Yes, that's the normal one.

I'm not really all that up on US coins, but I believe the silver coloured Cents are all pretty common.

Collectors' Coins Great Britain 2006 Edition

Thanks, I'll check those and make necessary amendments in the 2007 edition. Which Freeman do you have? I borrowed the latest for the book and have given it back and just have the 1970 edition here. The open '3' 1903 penny has a bottom tail that points below the '0'. It's in Gouby's book....I'll elaborate tomorrow.
  6. I already considered listing a £2.50 coin in the decimal section of a book!
  7. Hard to say, because I can't remember all of them! I like it because it's a mixture of 2 coins.

    1783george111 crown

When you add a reply, use the File Attachments prompt to select the picture (as a jpg, not too big) from your hard drive.
  9. It is strictly speaking illegal, but it was mentioned here once by wise old Oli that the folks in blue are not likely to do anything because it isn't really in the public interest. They need to spend resources finding out who makes them, not who collects them. I'll keep them, with my collection of various fakes from the last few hundred years....Which I really must photograph fully one day.

    1783george111 crown

There are no crowns from that date, unless you have a Spanish countermarked coin. You better tell us about the size and metal or post a picture so it can be identified.
  11. I might even put it on the front cover of Check your Change 2007!
  12. Do you have a spare one Geordie? I'd like to see it for the idea of creating something for GB coins.
  13. Here's a beter picture of this fascinating error coin, which is now in my possession. I didn't realise before I got it that it's all cupro-nickel. It's also thinner than a £2 and has a milled edge with no lettering. I'm stumped as to how a 50p and a £2 got merged like this!

    Unkown coin

My remark wasn't meant to be either, either. Simply the truth in a jokey way. The eBay message is part of my signature, so everyone sees it, it wasn't really directed at you personally.

    Unkown coin

I don't want it, so you can do what you like with it!

    Unkown coin

It isn't British, so I'll move it. Do a search on google for Maria Theresa Thaler and you'll find all you need.
  17. I'll go to double face value, but £5 is too much.
  18. I'd be interested in purchasing your fake collection, even for a little more than face value.
  19. Your first post already gave me that idea! The problem with them is that they cause coins to tone and dis-colour, or in a worst case scenario the coins get bronze disease and other corrosion. There probably is some kind of modern card that would do the job better, I'll have to see. It would be a good idea to lauch a range of folders with a new book I'm working an about decimals.
  20. They're aren't any as far as I know. Whitman are still going, you could ask them what range they did/do.
  21. No, they are refering to the 25p crown, the first of which appeared in 1972, ten years before the 20p became a main denomination.

    Artificial toning thread on CU

Reading all that gushy 'appology accepted, oh what a gentleman' flanel after the offenders appology makes me wonder if the whole coin world has gone far too PC (It's no wonder Bush got re-elected, do Americans always believe everything they're told??). String him up by his danglies, if someone wants to accidentally rainbow tone a coin and then re-sell it it's too late to appologise. Ban him from the CU forum, get him kicked off eBay, deposit him in Siberia!
  23. I'd like to see them! I'll even give you good pounds for them.

    German Coins

I do have a couple of Prussian Napoleonic 100 year anniversary coins (1913). One is the 2 mark the other is the 5. Those are UNC and £14 and £20 respectively. £30 the pair to you!

    German Coins

In case this is of interest to anyone (Oli perhaps, at least) I've recently started listing some German coins on the BETA version of the website, which will go live soon. See them here: http://www.predecimal.com/shop/index.php?c...le-german-coins I have others too, which will appear soon.
