Gold Sovereign
Chris Perkins replied to big jar of wasps's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
It has you know! Recently it's about £11,000 per kilo, which means £11 per gramme. A sov contains 7.32grammes, so that's about £80.00 bullion value. Gold is the highest it's been since 1980. -
If they had got feedback before this I bet it was someone bad that had taken over a good account.

I put my bank details on each and every listing for all to see. So far it's been perfectly safe, especially if the banks are so nervous about giving money out. Here in Germany, most people under 30 have never written a cheque. People don't even have cheque books. Their version of BACS is the norm, and for that reason paypal doesn't do as well here. I think it's mad that people in the same country should pay paypal (a US company) a fee to send money to each other!

Victoria Incuse Die Trial for Farthing 1838
Chris Perkins replied to Hussulo's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
I'm not sure Hussulo, I would suspect that what the BM say is probably true. It's not possible that it could be an error. I'd say it's some kind of experiment. There is an ex Royal mint employee that does coin evaluations. He hates me, but if you google on 'Robert Matthews coins' or something and contact him, make sure you tell him that I of predecimal.com recommended him! -
Dodgy! For expenisve things I don't trust paypal. Has to be a bank transfer (which should really become more widely encouraged). You had a lucky escape.

Victoria Incuse Die Trial for Farthing 1838
Chris Perkins replied to Hussulo's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
I have no idea, probably not. They're just not great at replying to people. When you send a coin they keep it for a year before sending it back. I had to wait about that long for my specially struck BNS medal. So, a simple letter, or an email without anything laying around to remind them, I don't fancy your chances! I suppose we should be grateful that they give their expertise for free at all. -
Yes, she did didn't she.

You won't hear back from them for some time, if at all! -
I think the point is that it's toothed both sides and the the seller is talking out of their arse (as we seem to have a bottom theme running)

You ought to try logging in from time to time....Or haven't I approved you yet. I have to be careful with those whole legions of Russian spammers out there. -
Austria/German dealers are a load of rubbish! Any British stuff they have is usually clean down to bare metal. I hope only your bride scrubbed up well!

You should be able to get your money back from paypal should the seller not refund you. Paypal are extremely effiecient at whipping sellers money right from under their noses, believe me! You'll have to let us know in here, how it goes. -
Yes, but if we keep getting little kisses we'll talk to you all day!

New Edge Type on 1935 Crown - I think Not!

From experience seeing other circulated proofs including 1927's etc. I've also never heard of a non proof raised edge, and I do know George V crowns pretty well. -

Might just be me, but..
Chris Perkins replied to Master Jmd's topic in Forum technical help and support
I keep meaning to do something about that. -
It's Spannish, without looking in books that's about all I can tell you! It's no doubt from somewhere around the 18th century.

I got a neg (user id chrisperkins)! Bloody stupid woman. I received a letter with a cheque for the England's Striking History ebook. In it, she specified a postal address for it to be sent to, so I emailed and explained it was an ebook and that other people sometimes make the same error (because most people are as thick as too short planks, but I didn't write that of course) not to worry though, I specified the download link and that was that. Without a reply or any communication I get a neg for it not being as described! Really it should have been me leaving her a neg for not reading it as described and being of sub-intelligence. Get this though.....I got her (mobile) phone number from ebay and gave her a ring. I asked politely if she was 'Sharron' (with 2 R's) and I told her who I was and that I was dissapointed with the neg and if she could tell me exactly why it was not as described. She told me to wait a moment and I could hear her talking to someone. Then the phone went dead and when I try to call again, it's switched off! How infuriating. This is a new product, I've only sold about 5, and it doesn't look good if someone already thinks it warrants a neg. What a bloody stupid uncommunicative cow. I've emailed her asking - still politely of course - if she would be able to remove the neg. She hasn't even paid anything as I still have the cheque here! If that fails, she's only in Ipswich and I can pay her a visit much easier than she could pay me a visit! The words 'window' and 'brick' come to mind, but I'm far too sensible for any nastiness like that. Bloody stupid woman.

New Edge Type on 1935 Crown - I think Not!
Chris Perkins replied to a topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
I noticed a little error in the GB coin section of Krause books (not sure what volume/edition). The error concerns the size of the Britannia type groats. In the book they are shown as being the same size as the maundy type groats, which is of course wrong, they are the same size as the threepence (but with a milled edge). Tell Messrs Krause and Michler about that one if you will, it's bugged me for the last couple of years! -

There was also a .500 proof wasn't there. I seem to remember I bought one off spink described as such, but it got lost in the post! Yes, ESC lists a .500 proof and it has a normal incuse edge...That exists as far as I'm aware. Where are you based E Dawson, if you're weren't aware, I also produce a British coin publication. -

I've seen 1934 crowns worn down to less than Fine, and 1927 proofs completely unrecognisable as proofs. -
Those are great Oli, thanks. That reminds me that I wanted to contact the BM to see if they wouldn't mind if I reproduced the 2nd Edition Peck dust cover.

Wondering if you can buy Coin Presentation Folder
Chris Perkins replied to a topic in Beginners area
Very true... And are there some pictures somewhere that would not involve me linking to Mr Chard?
