  1. And another picture. It's a strange blob thing above the head. I'd speculate it's either die damage or its a fake shilling and wasn't made to the same standards as a real one. Fakes of these are very common and the colour is a bit wierd, but probably from being cleaned.
  2. Someone else reported a problem uploading images. I'll look into that.
  3. They should have loads! I did the same and told the seller (Fiona) the true mintage figure.
  4. No it's not a fantasy one because all the Widow head sovs/half sovs are easy, as are most of the Jubilee heads. It's just like the Chinese made 1877 Elizabeth II Jubilee crown. I think they just give them impossible dates to make them obviously fake and possibly to avoid prosecution. 3.8g is a bit light, it should be more like 3.98.
  5. What? That's not even funny!
  6. You must have some with the better adhesive, I think they've been like that for a while. A lot of Lighthouse/SAFE things sourced in the UK are items from old stock because UK suppliers have to stock up with lots of stuff to save shipping costs. Then they sell it slowly and a lot of it gets old and dusty. My stuff is always fresh!
  7. They usually are, because most people know the feel of gold when they feel it. It could also be something gold plated, but a weight check should confirm it is some kind of gold.
  8. JK, I used to have the same problem with lighthouse 2x2's. I think they improved the glue so that they don't peel back, but I must admit the window material doesn't seem consistant lately and I too have seen inconsistent windows with ripples like you describe.
  9. They do don't they! The busts usually are the thing that most forgers have the most trouble with because they are always done by really rather good artists and copying them is obviously a problem. The coin is not really Victorian, it's probably modern so you'll have to test the gold purity, get it weighed and it'll be worth bullion value.
  10. I'll be at the next London Coin Fair at the Holiday Inn, Bloomsbury on the 10th June. I have a free ticket with my name on, but it should work for anyone. I won't need it as I'll be admitted as a dealer, so if anyone wants the free ticket let me know. I also have some funds available to cover the costs of travel and entry for those of you in full time education (+1 parent/guardian if applicable). If you can get to London on that day and would like to travel for free, please let me know in this topic, because I haven't got enough to cover everyone!
  11. Yes, obviously it's a modern copy, but I too am interested in seeing how well the jubilee head is rendered.
  12. You have to register, just to basically confirm your email address in case you're a Russian spammer, which evidently you are not. You won't get anything unsolicitored ever. Once registered a thing to attach a file (i.e. the image) will appear under the new post text.
  13. Ah yes, I forgot about Edward VIII in the middle, who should have face right, but didn't want to. George V did indeed face left. As far as i know, on all colonial too.
  14. Georgey boy looking looking to the right is normal. His son, Georgey boy the VI looked to the left from 1937 onwards.
  15. It's not a bad one is it. Grades around GVF-NEF I'd say. Unfortunately its collectability is drastically reduced by the green bit on the obverse. If it were mine I'd probably price it at £15.00 but wouldn't expect it to fly of the shelf that quickly because most collectors don't want verdigris (because it can spread to other coins). Without the green bit i'd price it perhaps around £50.00 The green bit may be removable if you've caught it early enough, but even if it is it will leave an unpleasant dark mark at the very least.
  16. Assuming the coins are the original ones in the boxes, you have described (very well) the 1950 and 1953 proof sets. There wasn't a 1950 UNC set and the 1953 UNC set came in a plactic transparent wallet without the crown.
  17. I have 2 mint sealed bags containing 4,800 1966 halfpennies and I sell them at a rate of about 1 per year! I intend to attach a free one to each copy of the next coin book that I'll be doing (Collectors Coins GB 2007). Actually, I need another £5 face value bag (of 2,400x 1966) if anyone has one?
  18. Well, the UK warehouse/courier people have 600 of the old edition to sell first, so you'd have to buy 600 from Smiths before the new ones started coming through (and you're most welcome to do that!). And, I don't actually have any of the new ones personally (just a sample) so you're going to have to wait until the old stock is sold.
  19. I've just had a reprint of 1,200 x CCGB2006 done. These later ones don't have such a curly cover and have had known errors removed (eg. 'rsearchers' on the back cover, and quite a few from the inside too!) The new one has '33rd Edition, Re-print © 2006' as the 3rd line of the first page. This means that a total of 6,700 copies have been printed. Of those there are about 2,300 left and if they sell out then that's a 34% sales increase compared to the 2005 version.
  20. In Fair condition, very little. Please do start new topics on new coins in the future.
  21. I don't personally have anymore 34's at the moment :-( I think I've probably handled more wreath crowns recently, particularly 34's, than any other coin dealer anywhere. I bought one once from an old bloke who's dad actually did get a '34 crown handed to him as cash at the bank he worked at in the 40's. He was clever enough to realise the significance and exchanged it for 2 of his own half crowns (25p, just to put it in perspective!). In 2004, his son sold it to me for £1000! It was, from memory, approaching EF but had some ugly edge knocks. I think I got £1300 for it.
  22. It can be quite difficult to tell with coins that have a little wear. Usually Maundy coins are kept pretty nice, so if you have an UNC YH threepence it's probably a maundy.
  23. Thanks Geordie, your order was received. I also need to work out the best way of archiving the order info for the old German Inland rev people. So far it looks quite easy to adapt a report.
