    old coin?

Looks like a repro to me, it's too round, the rim is too good and the style is not entirely Romanesque. Whats the diameter in mm?

    walking

Well I wouldn't go that far.

    You tell 'em Burpalot.

    Small Question

It was the only recognisable 'money' related thing that I could think of! A coin symbol was too small.
  5. I accumulate them and sell them for 40p each. Unfortunately they made them in huge numbers and no one really wants them.

    old coin?

I'm suspicious that you know the legend reads Clodius Septimius Albinus Caes, because on all Roman coins there are no spaces and it can be very difficult to read what they say on them....So how did you know where to put the spaces? If it's a real coin then it's clearly from the time of Clodius Albinus (about 195AD). You should attach a picture to your next post.

    old coin?

There's no need to post in 2 places. This sounds Roman and therefore is ancient related, so I've deleted the other one.

    Ebay's Worst Offerings

Very well written description isn't it.

    Coin Albums

The problem with that idea (like the Whitman folders of the 60's) is that when people find new varieties you suddenly don't have enough room....Also, if a space for every known variety was given, you'd have gaps all over the place that would probably never get filled.

    Touts

They'd tried to include html in the post in order to make it more difficult to report. Fortunately, I was still able to delete them both. It's so ridiculous isn't it, all it is, is a complete waste of my time....And why is it always in the beginners area I wonder. I'll have a look to see if I can make that area less attractive to those dodgy gits with no life that insist on advertising questionable wares.

    sunyang

Earlier today the member sunyang spammed at least 15 of the most recent topics with similar messages about coins for sale, with an email address, and pictures of Chinese coins. This is absolutely not acceptable, and will not be tolerated! The messages have been deleted, the user has been banned without notice. Their email has been banned as has the whole IP range from which the user registered. This behaviour is childish, annoying and any attempts by sunyang or anyone else to repeat this will be removed right away, so to even think about it would be futile.

    Advertising on Mail

Granted the non-coin trinkets are naff,However, lots of interesting new sets, whats amateur about that? What's interesting about them? It's all rubbish, mass produced and advertised in a way to make people believe that it 'might be worth something in a few years'. It never is (apart from the odd error that genuinely is rare). Get your modern coins from circulation, don't actually buy them! It's been like that since the coin collecting boom in the 60s, when some mint official somewhere thought it would be a great way of making money, if they could sell 'collectable' coins direct to collectors. So they mark the most obscure occassions with a special coin, and in rolls the cash. The stamp and banknote people do exactly the same. I've slagged off modern coins elsewhere. Don't waste your money.

    1953 3d varieties.

It's assumed in Peck that the proof is always sharply struck (which is no doubt the case), but there is no mention of the 'I' pointing in Peck. I'll have to clarify that a bit in the next one if possible. Does anyone know if the 'I' pointing variety also occurs in the proof coin?

You are able to for about 5mins after posting....It's to stop people going back later and completely changing things to make them look clever!

    1675/3 CRAOLVS halfpenny

That's a nice, incredibly obvious error isn't it. Thanks.

    1960 proof crown

Every single one on ebay is usually a polished die....just like most 1951's are frosted proofs and 1935's are always raised edge type because people think that it means the writing around the edge of the obv! Bafoons, the lot of 'em.

    1960 proof crown

That's a nice one isn't it...Gotta be a damned good polished die type.

    1960 proof crown

Some of the 1960 polished die crowns are better than others. If yours is very nice then it may have actually been sold in America and not bashed about to buggery on the boat on the way back to Blighty. The chances of it really being a proof are very remote.

    1960 proof crown

Then it's probably a polished die one (i.e. the dies were polished before striking, but the blanks were not).
  21. Yesterday in the woods near Thalheim, Saxony the girlfriend and I saw a real wild snake slithering across a path. When it noticed us it slithered much quicker and we really just got a good look at the last 2 thirds of it's body. Research leads us to believe it was either a Common Viper, or a Ring Snake. It was probably more than 30cm long and a good 3cm thick. I've never seen a wild snake before!
  22. Chris Perkins

    Saw a real wild snake.

Normally I like long legs, but those bloody Daddy-longlegs are my worst fear. I think it has to do with the fact that as a child my mum always used to go mental when one flew in the house. It's the way all their legs hang behind as they fly, and the fact that they seem to have no idea where they want to fly!

    Anything else?

Please point me towards other unrecorded variety topics within the forum, if I missed any.

    1852 groat

Oh no, I wouldn't think of pressuring you to sell it (and the message below my post obviously doesn't apply to you). If you can take a good (really good) picture you can email it to me if you like: cp@predecimal.com I'll tell you in a flash if it's uncirculated or not.

    1852 groat

Yes, that's an expensive one in UNC (over £500) but you'd need an expert to verify it truly is UNC.
