It's was listed as Harald I on eBay. Sold. £900.
-
It was definitely different coins. The details were more worn on the one on the scales especially around the lions and harp , the toning was completely different also. Least he did the right thing when challenged about it but he definitely intended to try and swindle somebody initially until he was pulled up.
-
It's worked. It's been pulled. 👍
-
The coin on the scales in the last image is not even the one he's selling. That one looks geniune with wear.
-
So they are! Well spotted ! Thanks.
-
My moneys on pewter. Definitely fantasy knockups.

Anybody got any idea what these are? They are certainly not Edward III Silver groats. The letterings all wrong and the obverse is too. They look plastic! Definitely replicas i think that have been exposed to heat to remove the telltale marks of a replica. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ancient-coins-3-x-Edward-III-Silver-Hammered-Long-Cross-Groats-1351-1369/273088909191

To clean or not to clean
Ukstu replied to richtips86's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
With Acetone it's all timing. If it were a recent print within a few hours it would lift it but any longer it's hopeless. I have a lovely Irish proof 10 shilling coin with a nasty print on it. I tried using acetone on a Q tip to remove it but it never worked unfortunately. -
Think it's a sixpence as shilling doesn't have the Rose behind the bust. Woolpack mintmark. Sixth issue. Bust 6C. Spink 2578B

Looks ok to me. I have a few that are bright almost like aluminium looking. The contemporary forgeries are easy to spot as they are brass with silver wash usually.
-
Me too. The amount of fakes that womans sold as well. I wouldn't be surprised if she's had neg feedback removed by eBay which lulls buyers into a false sense of security that she's trustworthy and boosts her confidence that she's untouchable so the cycle of dishonesty just keeps on going. We've all reported her numerous times and not once have we had one pulled. It's a joke.

Shocking how many idiots bid on these still. Must be the third one field_walkers sold this year so far. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Newark-Siege-Coin/122975070119 https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/pontefract-siege-coin/162914190772 https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Interesting-Metal-Detecting-Find/152915779212

Agreed. His prices have risen since he started. Some are extremely high IMO. I am waiting for an adjustment on some before i bid on a few , if not I'll look elsewhere.

Nice one here. Worth a bid. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/King-John-Short-Cross-Penny-Norwich-Moneyer-Renaud-Superb/183084005555

Surely this is a modern replica or forgery??
Ukstu replied to Martinminerva's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
We do all that John. Unfortunately once an items been bid on that's it , eBay won't pull it. We've posted thousands of items on here under ebays worst offerings that probably 25-30 people alone from these forums have reported to no avail. 99 % of fake /fraudulent items complete sale. We see it time and time again and we are following correct reporting procedures and processes. Ebay do not give a damn. It's all about money to them. -

What are these strange blotches on hammered coins
Ukstu replied to ConstantlyHammered's topic in British Hammered
They are called privy marks. Wikipedia on privy marks "Originally a small mark or differentiation in the design of a coin for the purpose of identifying the mint, moneyer, or some other aspect of the coins production or origin, for control purposes." Some more information here about privy marks on Henry VI coins. http://www.vosper4coins.co.uk/ivanbuck/Buck-3.htm -
Two pennies glued together.
-
Yes thanks. It arrived on Tuesday. Quite nice. I may get the sixpence to join my sixpence collection.
-
Great find. Well done!

Good move. The 5 big dark coins all look like modern reproductions. Even with the low light background he's tried to photograph them under they scream fake.
