  1. It's surprising how much different the weather can be when your at the bottom of a valley as opposed to the top. I've not climbed skiddaw. I once set off on a walk in August from Rivington heading up to Winterhill. I had shorts on and a tee shirt but had packed cold weather gear. The walk through the gardens up to the pike was oppressive the heat was similar to as you described. I must of consumed a litre of water before i reached the tower. Anyway within 5 mins of leaving the tower and heading out on to the moors towards the summit and masts the temperature plummeted to about 5 degrees and a cold wet fog descended on me , i then began to shiver so quickly threw my cold gear on. It was then that i realised why it was called Winterhill. I've experienced those conditions climbing peaks in the lakes but didn't realise these hills were similar. But most people do not realise that when venturing up there. They see the beautiful pictures people take on clear days from the summits and assume its just like a pleasant stroll in the countryside so venture out ill prepared and under equipped for a changing environment.
  2. We get that often near me. People venturing up on to Pendle hill in just hoodies and trainers. MRT and helicopters are always passing by. Had a young couple brought off there about a week ago in a white out just before 10pm. No lights or compass or map, never even been up there before. Reckless and foolish.

    Ebay's Worst Offerings

I steer well clear of them. Anything bright and shiny with that similar lettering is a no go for me. Some of them look like they were made with a soldering iron.

Time to sell my spare pennies

I had similar issues. It would only send in dollars. It converted my payment to dollars at current conversion rates for some reason. Very odd. Anybody know if this will be an issue? Thx.

    Ebay's Worst Offerings

No. I knew what the coin was when i bought it. I'd of bought it without the COA regardless. Strangely it was correctly identified online but not on the COA. They add very little value to a purchase really as its not like its a COA from somebody at the British museum. Suppose they are intended to give people peace of mind but if any joe bloggs can write one and print it off they are in theory not worth the paper they are printed on.

I bought a coin a few weeks ago that came with a COA. The coin was a class 7b1 coin. The COA said it was 7c. It went in the bin ?. Just a laminated print off lol.

They may not have the R on them. I've bought other replicas off museum reproductions for my kids. All are usually stamped with a discreet R.

    Ebay's Worst Offerings

They may be marked with a small R. Museum reproductions do the same coin/token. There all cast from the same original. If you look at them you'll see exactly the same marks and indentations on them plus they look as if they are peeling. Take a look at the one here http://www.museumreproductions.co.uk/shop/viewitem.php?productid=466 Then examine the two from the eBay links and you'll see what i mean. On the paxs side next to the S in pax you'll see it looks clipped on the edge. Also the X in pax has a smudge / blob on it. They are just two easily noticeable marks on all of them. Also look at the short cross that runs on the obverse , notice the nick on the cross between the S and P. There is other noticeable marks too. ? Remember no two coins should look alike , each should have its own nicks and knocks.

Heres a link to the rubbish pax pennies that are getting flogged. The two other links are ebay sales of those same crap pennies. Not sure how you can word it but the pictures may prove useful if you want to add them to your guide. 23. The rumours are probably true. Counterfeiting of an enemy states currency to destabilize their economy is a well known trick going back centuries.
  24. Found in the attic of a long passed relative. Where have i heard that description before? Hi DQ welcome to the forum. Post them up and we will see what we can do for you.
  25. The Geo III Irish bank tokens were heavily counterfeited. You occasionally see more brass ones for sale on eBay than genuine.
