    Ebay's Worst Offerings

Yes here's his response Thank you very much for bringing this matter to my attention!Although the item does look authentic to me, i.e., surface pitting, double strike, edge etc., and even it was bought some time ago from an e-bay seller with a good profile, I take your point and have just removed the item from sales. I shall give it another think and try to find more info on the forgery network. Kindest regards,Alex

    Ebay's Worst Offerings

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CHARLES-I-SILVER-SHILLING-TOWER-MINT-UNDER-THE-KING-MM-PLUME-1630-1/292318084489 Reported! Take a look at his others . I don't like that Lizzie 6d at all it looks mushy. Emailed him about the above coin just to let him know it's a rep as he may not be aware. Could be genuine mistake as he mentions the R in the listing.

Everything he sells is a metal detecting find. He's still trying to flog that pencil drawing of Michael Owen which he dug up! ?

This guy needs to invest some of his money in a new camera. Surprised he sells anything judging by his images. His feedbacks a chuckle. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Battle-of-Hastings-Commemerative-coin-metal-detecting-finds/292316497177

    Ed Penny, contemporary forgery???

If it is a contemp forgery its bloody good. First impressions are its ok mate. If it was contemporary forgery wouldn't it be base metal silvered or low quality silver? In which case it would be in bad shape after a prolonged period in the ground. I think its fine that mate. Usually with forgerys of that period the letterings all messed up and blundered. I can read that perfectly EBORACI is spot on.

    Ebay's Worst Offerings

eBay is great. Some of my best coins have come via eBay. You can't beat the feeling you get when you pick up an unresearched hammered at a fraction of its cost because it was incorrectly listed and poorly investigated. I've had some that still had soil on them fresh out the ground when they arrived. Hurrah for eBay ?

    Ebay's Worst Offerings

Hats of too you guys for confronting these idiots. I don't have the patience to converse with them anymore. The unit price on those must be cheap to be able to sell them on at 99p. Probably getting them in bulk from Alibaba. I find the best way to get your money back with ebay is to instigate a return under item does seem authentic. Weigh and photograph the coin and collect proof of a proper weight coin to show as an example. The sellers usually back down immediately if confronted with viable evidence. On the odd occasion I've hit a problem and spoke direct with eBay they have listened and acted accordingly on my behalf. It could be down to the years I've been buying on ebay though that they are so helpful. Completely agree though that the refund process can be drawn out by awkward sellers.

Its not the first time for that seller either. They are frequently listing those Ancestors pewter sixpences as geniune. Clearly out to deceive.

  17. Totally agree. I often get directed to their website searching for certain coins. The prices are outrageous. Your paying for a brand name when you buy from them.
  18. What an oddity. It has a similiar reverse of a Geo III 1799 coin. Judging by the wear it looks like its seen some action. Never seen anything like it before. It must be some kind of token or evasion piece.

    Offa Hammered

It varies from county to county. 3 months - 18 months in some cases depending on the work loads of each museum.

    Christmas Sixpence 2017

Worth a look if you collect sixpences i suppose. I did see the 2016 ones early in the year but they had all sold by then. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Royal-Mint-Silver-Sixpence-2017-Coin-Presentation-Pack-Christmas-/122755519368
  23. Maybe something to do with the Empire. The ear on the Elephant suggests its an Indian Elephant. Indian troops were enlisted in the british army so I'd hazard a guess its probably the work of a bored indian solider. To some indians the elephant is a sacred animal. They worship them as one of their gods. (Ganesh) The indians had a major rebellion in 1857 against british rule. So it could also be the 10 year anniversary of that. Quite often defacement of crown coins is done for political reasons.
