Shilling Elephant Victoria head ?!
Ukstu replied to Mumra's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
Maybe something to do with the Empire. The ear on the Elephant suggests its an Indian Elephant. Indian troops were enlisted in the british army so I'd hazard a guess its probably the work of a bored indian solider. To some indians the elephant is a sacred animal. They worship them as one of their gods. (Ganesh) The indians had a major rebellion in 1857 against british rule. So it could also be the 10 year anniversary of that. Quite often defacement of crown coins is done for political reasons. -
Welcome Dave. Awesome images ! Excellent work.

No mate. I just clicked on trade and found that link to the coin stock page.

Different coins. Just found their catalogue. Shocking. There isn't much they are not replicating. http://trade.ancestors.co.uk/products/timeline/coins
-
They are a pain in the arse at the moment. Starting to see more and more different types. Think this is the company making them. http://www.ancestors.co.uk/index.php

Fake. The little heart on the reverse left of the sheild shows its a replica. Fairly common one that we see a lot. Here's a few others from the same company in their packaging. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ANCESTORS-4-COIN-HAMMERED-NOVELTY-REPRODUCTIONS-in-sealed-packs/192335788555

Reported! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1562-Queen-Elizabeth-1st-hammered-coin/162714688912

I have two piedforts. The 1990 & 1994. Picked them up cheap a few years ago as investments.

Nice selection of historical coins. Well done! ?

The reverse legend is nonsense and the obverse legends incorrect from any Edward coins ive seen. It doesn't make sense , thats the major giveaway. Plus as you say its sharp and bright. You do see nonsensical legends on continental coins imitating english coins but you can see there aged and are contemporary to the period, this does not look old. When i first saw it on eBay with the sellers pictures i thought it looked plastic or pewter.
-
There's a few companies make them. Grunal is a guess. I am certain its a fantasy mix up. It does not meet the criteria of any Edward coins that I've ever seen.
-
No. He tends to put nonsensical legends on them. Sometimes Civitas Grunal but mainly just random letters.
-
Looking at it close up now I'd say its one of dave greenhalgh. (Moneta Grunal).

5th October.

Think i posted this in eBays worst offerings last week. I felt it was a replica.

Bring on the gimp ?

Nice coin. Nothing wrong with pecks. It tells a story. I keep meaning to buy one of these myself but get side tracked by other purchases. Definitely on my near future list though.
-
Disappointed ! ? https://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/162695896234 I think i am going to have to buy one of these and list it on ebay as a fake with a million pound price mark so it stays there as a warning to others. Sick to the back teeth of seeing these go for hundreds of pounds. Its ridiculous
-
That is bad. I've got a few hq pieces i want slabbed myself but unsure as Nomortuus is on who to use. I ain't sending them overseas. Its bloody difficult having seen those images above.

https://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/Henry-Silver-Hammered-Metal-Detecting-Find/292287951882 ? His feedbacks worse than his photography.

Ahhh. I forgotten. I thought it was auction. I might just slab a few of mine if there pulling in around that mark ?
-
Any ideas what it eventually sold for? I can't find it now.

What coins would have been buried
Ukstu replied to ShaggyBFC's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
That's probably an accurate description of what would happen unfortunately. I am sure there was a case in hackney years ago where a jar of gold coins was buried during the blitz. The family took a direct hit in the anderson shelter and all died. The coins where dug out of a rockery in 2007 and ended up being returned to the decendants of the family in Israel. But obviously that case involved an honest finder.Google the Hackney Hoard. -
Probably handed down the trade to his son. It was fairly common then.
