I posted this one a few days ago. I've reported it. The sellers now updated the listing description to say hes " Got a bag full of them" http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/122598565708 In other words when them two sell he will be listing more. Unbelievable!

I noticed that days ago. Reported it too.

It must be those pesky thieving magpies!

Pissing into the wind reporting anything to them unfortunately. I've given up doing that now and since I got threatened I've given up hassling the sellers to remove or be clear about what they sell. Unfortunately it's crawling with crooks on there. I've even been fleeced buying stuff for my kids (toys) . Best thing we can all do is be wary about what we buy and fight our corner if something goes wrong , we can't rely on eBay for anything other than replace or refund and if they start to deny us that liberty I'll be throwing the towel in and shopping elsewhere.

I know. The only way the evidence could be put towards them was by photograph unless they where willing to come direct to your door for an explanation of why it was fake. I find their attitude towards it shoddy at the least. If Declan had not persisted the case they would of been favouring the seller (fraudster). Happy it was sorted eventually.

? Spot on lol. Bin it!

Also terrible condition for such a hefty price tag. This ones just plain wrong. Another one of those wonderful "metal detecting finds" http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/162589701240

Well done. I knew it would pan out well in the end.

Glad i don't collect circulating modern currency. Looks like a minefield!

I don't own the Stewertby book as yet. I'll buy it once i find it priced up at a decent figure. Maybe a second hand copy. Gerry Slevin has a book on the Dublin mint of Henry III. It covers the Irish Long cross coins under Henry. Getting back to your coin , i can see why the flo attributed it as 4b. The X in Rex does look blocky like the 4b ones also the S is blunded. My 4a X is quite thin and wirey. I've not heard anyone put 4b coins in Johns corner before. I think he's probably made a mistake and got slighty confused.

Same here. I've invested much money in numistimatic literature and books. The book i pictured and mentioned above is called shortcross legends its by Gerry Slevin. I got mine off amazon in 2015. Its still available there though its gone up slightly since i purchased my copy. I picked up the Churchill Thomas Brussels hoard book earlier in the year online for £30 pre owned. Its a good book though i haven't yet completed it fully. Its a definite must for anyone interested in Henry III Longcross coinage.

The most recent book on the short cross coinage by Gerry Slevin marks 4b coins in Richards camp. My gut feeling when i saw it was the same , Richard immediately came to mind. I would personally mark it up as a Richard until someone can say otherwise with strong evidence. To me its a perfect example of a Richard coin , your very very lucky to find any Richards in good condition. Treasure it.

I have the same one though mines 4a. I've always classed that degraded portrait with stubble as Richard.

Double patard of charles the bold.

Nice finds. I do a spot of detecting myself. Bought the Garrett Euroace in 2011. Good machine. Had some nice finds with it over the years. Not been out much this year as my permissions sadly expired due to the land owner selling out for housing development. Hopefully find somewhere new before the summers over.

? ha ha. He's in need of a pair of poundland reading glasses me thinks.

1699 halfpenny overstuck T?
Ukstu replied to Michael-Roo's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
Both excellent examples of a hard to find coin in good condition. Nice coins. ? -
He obviously does river bank walks. I often find cow , sheep & horse teeth that get washed up on the banks of the Ribble. Some old some modern it depends whether they have gone in over the past few years or been washed out the banks with erosion. Found a fossilised equus tooth once. Why anyone would buy manky old animal teeth is beyond me. As for that Neolithic tool its just a river rock. The rest of his wares look like £1 land trinkets. I've seen his crap listed under detecting finds before. If it sells its quickly replaced with identical stock. That silly MCL crucifix has sold a few times. Definitely a con man.

Follow Jerrys advice. Push for a refund , ebay will support you fully. Show them the link above that mikes posted. If you come unstuck post back here with any obstacles and amongst us we should be able to help.

I wish i could help you but unfortunately i can't. I only dipped my toes in the water with AR coins. Think i own around 5 all of which came from eBay before i got hit with the fakes which turned me off from collecting in that field as i realised i was out of my depth. It was easy to see they where fake in the hand but not on screen. Silburycoins sell AR coins but they are pricey. Maybe someone else will know of a reputable seller other than eBay. Failing that tread carefully and only buy from sellers you've bought from before with success.

Your better off looking elsewhere for Roman coins. There's so many fakes or tooled AR coins on ebay its unreal. I got stung with a couple of Bulgarian fakes a few years ago on ebay. The seller was based in London but his facebook page revealed he was Romanian which as you know is right next door to Bulgaria. That experience put me off buying Roman coins as i had a right mare getting refunded as the seller insisted on only swapping the coins for other coins within his stock which i refused then he paid me back with an e-cheque which took 14 days to clear.

I put mine in lighthouse flips then seal them in tupperware boxes packed with a few silica gel packs before storing them away if thats any help.

Agreed. They have very little monetary value as they are not coins. When you go to Italy and Greece and Egypt on holiday you can pick up these novelty pieces from the stalls and bizzares. They are specifically made for tourists as souvenirs.
