i believe the 53 vip proofs were struck in .999 silver not cupro nickel ???? and i'm sure i read somewhere the 37 vip's were struck in .999 silver not .500 as the finesse was at that time ??? interesting subject, not fully understood yet maybe, i know you have the i to the dots varieties and stuff but the cameo's interest me the most

this is the problem i had with ingram coins, with the 53 halfcrown, tight git stripped me up for £190 quid in the end, had no choice short of going down to southampton to get money back there was nothing i could do, although he did call the police when i said i was gonna come down and get it back, lol, sent him proof etc about what he had sold me, but wasnt interested, very pushy dealer, not a member of the btna either if that means anything, trusted him as a dealer to price his coins according tot here rarity etc, dont think he has much knowledge in this area, i didn't but i do now, knowledge is power lol

hi newheart, storage, thats a big discussion, depends what you're collecting, but what you linked is ok for circulating coins, you might be better using a company like http://www.duncannon.co.uk/ for lighthouse stuff, but people will be able to point you the right way, proof coins would be better kept in coin capsules, a slabbed coin has been graded by a 3rd party company and them sonically sealed into a tamper proof coin capsule, or whats called a slab, https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/2000s/141155/i.html?_from=R40&_nkw=ngc+coin

looks ok to me from here, is that a rare year or summit, why make a coin look that good for such a low value, are they contemporary forgeries ?

the royal mint, a public service or a licence to print money?
craigy replied to headsortails's topic in Decimal Coins
they were available in the annual sets, which i get, nice to see a normal coin get some rare treatment, thats what real collecting is about -
what tells you its a copy, along with the crown

notice that coin has some red/blue toning, where would these coins have come from, obviously not the groud for that one, amazing how they travel down the years
