suffolk, nice area for detecting, my kids live in felixstowe, lots of roman and saxon that way, friend of mine found a saxon burial not far from sutton hoo a couple of years ago, brooches etc, they reckon the metal work came out the same workshop as the sutton hoo stuff as its about the same time, i'm not at liberty to give the exact village it was found in

been detecting around 12 years now, i wish it were that easy down in sarf essex, lots of people looking for permission on limited land, and we have many a barren field this way, same as everywhere, i started off on beaches and in woods, although you need permission in woods even, did the local parks, not strictly legal as you need permission again, but i stayed out the way and filled holes and kept to evenings and early mornings, i put myself about a bit after a while, writing letters etc, i got a couple of yes's and never looked back, some of the older crowed have 1000's of acres stitched up that no one can get permission on, and they never show the landowners a thing, i got lucky because one guy i wrote to owned several farms and that led me to meeting and getting to know an agricultural contractor who hooked me up with a few other people, i have other people detecting on my permissions so there not all exclusive to me, some are, i have lost farms to other people or the farmer gets funny because you show him everything and let them have what they want and then they think your still having it away, i always record my finds with the portable antiquities scheme and report anything that falls within the 1996 treasure act , there's always plenty of digs around the country you can go on, and quite a few clubs who have deals with farmers, i'm also lucky to have the Thames pretty much at the bottom of my road, and often go into the city to forage around the foreshore, again you need a permit from the port of london authority or be a member of the Society of Mudlarks

have been using the lighthouse everslab but find the if thinner and smaller coins tend to twist in the insert, i use the coin gallery to buy capsules cause they send out the product in the proper box, ones i've used on ebay buy them in bulk and chuck them in separate in a bag, not a fan of that, been looking at airtites but they have to be shipped in as i'm yet to find a dealer who stocks them in the uk -

so have i thats why i cant understand how this has happened, its a pretty specific area getting into the finer details of the early plastic type dies and vip issues etc, i did place to much trust in who i was buying from, i didn't actually pay £550 for it i had around £370 quid in decimal £2's 50'p you know and the Olympic 50p's, i have 3 sets of olympics in the first issue folder with the medal things so i wasn't too bothered in seeing them go, i can get the £2's all day long from friends in shops etc, wasn't any scarce ones in there like kew gardens or the 2002 £2 commonwealth or the bible or the Olympic £2's. we came to a deal of £600, i chose that and a 1950 proof penny, thought i would do something different instead of using it to and trusted the price to reflect in its scarcity, then when i finally had a chance to sit down i realized it was the billy basic and were frosted like that in many sets on ebay, and the fact i won one last week for £7 and seeing one sell in April for .76p and another for around £6 from the states made me think something wasn't right, -

actually those 1937's did come from the same set, the crown and half crown were nice but couln't afford them, the set came from the states via ireland, coins from the us always last better cause of the climate -

bought the coins separate, some come from the same lot, have looked at buying a whole set in the case but not all the coins are always nice or look like they belong to the same set -
