Chris Excellent plug seriously I'll buy the book because it looks to be just what I need;as I said I'm no coin collector but take a passing interest in the subject. Regards Steve

Good evening to all I collect notes but do have a few coins in a WH Smith album-tonight whilst searching through my model railway room,my Grand-daughter came across a £2 coin dated 1995 and inscribed for the U.N. Now,I was'ent aware we had £2 coins then but it got me wondering as to how many different £2 coins have been minted. Any help appreciated Thank you Steve

Thanks a bunch for that-it's just what I was after. Regards Steve -
The other day I came across two 50 pees with 2 differing designs commerating the Victoria Cross.I kept them back for my Grandson currently serving with the 1st Battalion PWRR in Germany and the latest recipient of the VC-Private Johnson Beharry. To save me walking all of 20 yds to our local library, any one know how many commerative 50p's have been issued? Thanks also to all who have replied to my ramblings on this forum, especially as I am not a coin collector as such! Steve

I do have one-not for sale, should anyone be interested in a fuller description. The story I seem to recall was they were'nt government approved so they were withdrawn, but not before a good few were sold.My wife bought one for a chap she knew in London,he asked her to,so they must have been reasonably well advertised. I just wondered if anyone knew the official story. Regards Steve

Thanks a lot for all the info.I was'ent going to clean them anyway but just thought I'd ask. I collect old Stock and Bond pieces, most are in good nick, but on the odd occasion you get a mucky one but you can't clean it! As to ultrasonic cleaners.....well you can't beat the old HP Regards Steve

What is the best way to clean coins or do they lose value if they have been? When we were kids the old brown sauce worked a treat and the look on the sweetie shop mans face when given a couple of shining Queen Vic ha'pennies or pennies was classic. Seriously though,is it done? Regards Steve

Survival Rates - British Bronze Coinage 1860-1970

I don't know about good deal, but it's the second time I've had it happen to me As I have said in another thread I don't collect coins, but I have an old spectacle case with- 8 Farthings 5 Ha'pennies 2 Pennies The rest are 3d bits ,Tanners and other silver. My point is,if I have just this small amount, then I suspect I'm not the only one. Regards Steve -
Back in 1997 the Isle of Wight council issued a silver IOW Euro with HMY Brittania on it. This coin was widely available for a short time then was abruptly withdrawn from the places that sold it-tourist shops and the local newspaper shop and such like. As far as I know it had no monentary value-any one know why it was withdrawn? Regards Steve (in the now dry IOW )

George 111 coins
steveiow replied to steveiow's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
Yes the small one is a dead ringer, but if they are gaming tokens, what exactly does that mean, and why has the larger one got a well known shop name on it? Did Parkins and Gotto make these and if so what for? Regards Steve (still in the wet Isle of Wight-sunshine isle my ) -
Hello I have recently found two George 111 coins in amongst a small collection we have here at home. The first one is about the size of a farthing has George 111 head and insciption,on the rear it has a shield surmounted by a crown and four insignia in the shield. Here's the wierd bit-the date is 1701-is it a fake? The other is about the size of a shilling,is gold, has the same on the front and the same shield on the back but bears the wording-Parkins and Gotto,Oxford Street,London. There is no date. Was this some form of token that could only be used at that shop, like the old Co-oP tokens? I don't collect coins only old bonds and share certificates,so I know little about the subject-would be happy to recieve any info. whatsoever. Regards Steve (in the soaking wet Isle of Wight )
