Not as far as I could see for BU annual sets. -
2017 mintage figures,
Unwilling Numismatist replied to craigy's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
The RM have started publishing them now (or I've been way to dense to find them until recently). For 2015 https://www.royalmint.com/discover/uk-coins/circulation-coin-mintage-figures/2015-dated-uk-commemorative-coin-sales/ My fifth portrait 1st edition annual set - 1,563. Some mintages are just bizzare. -

2017 mintage figures,
Unwilling Numismatist replied to craigy's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
And 1.8m for the 2017 shield 50p, hoped it would have been lower but managed to bag a few for posterity The annual sets obviously don't get included either as they contain all coins, a shame the mintage figures for sets don't get published but I imagine the numbers are only in the thousands. I wonder just how rare that will make the contents! -
I would too, this might actually get their attention then.

Wouldn't that rather depend on whether you're collecting them for yourself or just out for making a rather unscrupulous quick buck? -

Indeed, that would have been a good way to generate some easy upgrade! -

I get mine through Readly - and can see as far back as september 2015. Given that I like my TV guide and camera mags as well, it's really quite cost effective -

Git But on that note, the £2 Captain Cook is actually the best modern coin I've seen in ages. -

The trouble here is that I don't think the RM will seperate the figures for the SYO coins - although for an organisation of their standing, I would have thought it should be compulsory in this day and age. The only one which will probably stand out, when they get to it, willl be the 2018 Isaac Newton, as none for this year were minted for circulation. addendum: I guess the largest factor here for RM figures is that they are for coins entering circulation, and anything SYO is not, so I doubt we'll see any figures at all. -
The beading is very random, with probably less than a third of all coins being complete - you would be less likely to get a complete beaded ring, but given the numbers minted "less common" would be a more appropriate description than the popular "Rare". The edge writing can be either way up, there is not a "wrong way up" error.

Keeping coins long term in Royal Mint sealed bags

I'd love to have a definitive answer on this too, I have bags going back years. -

I would imagine many people before you, and probably many afterwards thinking exactly the same thing. Where do you start, what do you include, and what should you exclude if anything - surely variety collectors shouldn't be penalised. How much time do you have on your hands..... -
And for me, I'll go with post-mint damage, unless they were found in a sealed bag 5 years ago.

I think Peck has it, the lighting just makes it look more curvacious than it would normally appear. Wonderful what a nights sleep and a mug of tea will do -

The 1787 fakey chinese one clearly demonstrates a poor copy I know what you mean though, something just looks a little "off" with the one posted by @Madness -
If you check ebay today you might not find the coin in the "sold" section. I imagine that the sale was cancelled, as no-one in their right mind should pay more than about £2 for one of these coins, unless it has some spectacularly unique errors (and the hapless seller probably doesn't want to suck up the vast sellers fee for a sold item that doesn't get paid for). The "writing around the edge is upside down" is not an error, it can be either way and is a feature or the manufacturing process. the dots around the queens head - not really an error which would lend itself to making the coin sell for any large premium, as this "error" is so common, it would be rarer to find a coin with a complete ring of dots! Anything you read about "rare coins" and "selling" and "ebay" in the daily rags is probably about as trustworthy as a gentleman selling snake oil. With regards to "rare" £2 Pounds coins, none are actually rare with the noted exceptions of the Norther Ireland commonwealth games and the single metal "Claim of rights" coins. Others will fetch a little/some more than face value depending on their condition, and how many people are looking for that coin at a given time. The scarcity index at change-checker should assist you in which are currently the most popular coins.

Advice please from the Tech savvy crew
Unwilling Numismatist replied to Chingford's topic in Nothing whatsoever to do with coins area!
From experience, go with one of the top name brands, the others I have experience with all seem to be liable to overheat, slow running and "bits flaking". I personally have a samsung, and find it ideal for everything, but opinion varies and my mate says he couldn't possibly be parted from his ipad. each to their own I guess. With Samsung you can add a micro sd card for extra space for your photos, where the apple product will require a subsciption to their cloud once you've used all the ipad internal storage. Samsung are also considerably cheaper, but quality of both is comparable. Perhaps a currys/pcworld visit to see which she prefers would be the best option. (I have no experience of miscrosoft tablets, although they do look quite versatile). -
Best Decimal Coins to collect - thanks, Chris
Unwilling Numismatist replied to HeavyT's topic in Decimal Coins
Both of the above plus the £5 Canute, and a RM 2017 Annual BU coin set for god measure as it also contains all 3 and some random Beatrix Potter RM sealed BU 50p's I had trouble getting the small change though, but put aside some unc £1 coins for posterity, and bought / found / obtained all other 50ps and £2 in uncirc condition from other sources. -- didn't get any other commemorative £5 dross though, they're all ugly as usual. -
The coin valuation service is I believe only for pre-decimal coins. The RM will however examine coins which are potentially erroneous - the case of a bronze 20p springs to mind. I'm unsure if they would attribute a cost to this service, however an email to them may answer you question more fully. and I still haven't forgotten Larry!
