where to cash in new pence 2p coins from 1971-1983

The Christmas 50p's can be a winner on Ebay (not for me, I only do British mainland). The old £2 might make £4 or bank it.. The 1936 shilling and threepence are 50% real silver, but I wouldn't expect those to make more than a quid or so. The rest is not in any great demand as there is so much of it about.

I can't be sure, but I don't think so. I've pulled out over 50 Euros from it, so thats a nice few free beers when I'm away next , Looks to be a few colonial types from the late 1800's in there and a multitude of other misc stuff from 1880 french and portuguese onwards plus all teh usual Danish, German, Helvetica etc.

One of my many dealing with the early CGS

I have to say that sounds remarkably positive of them in their new approach. I'd probably be in the same mind set regarding mis-strikes though, take £2 coins for example - many many of these are not "quite right" with regards to the beads around the Queen's head, so how would you best add a category. For variety collectors, there would probably be way too many combinations of missing or mis-struck linear circle dots and degrees of angle at which the coin is affected (you never know, one day people might want to try that lol - just playing DA) To simplify it though, why not just have a mis-strike comment in the same manner that there can be a (cleaned) comment on the label.

where to cash in new pence 2p coins from 1971-1983

Unfortunately a "load of old coins" normally aren't worth a great deal, unless they have been carefully stored and are either of significance, or in an excellent state of preservation (but preferably both). With regards to the growing number of stories in the daily rags regarding the completely ludicrous prices attached to coins of little to no real worth, they are just that, stories. If you could provide a couple of images and a brief list of coins, it may be possible to assist you further.

Best Decimal Coins to collect - thanks, Chris

I would look for one, but I'd certainly need the RM to accredit it before I got excited. They've done it enough times for it to be a realistic event...

No-one in their right mind would use a gold one as £2 anyway. Can you imagine dropping one at tesco for a 1.99 item lol. Here's your penny change sir.

The joys of USB scope-camera no squinting, easy checking on large screen. If something then needs a good picture it can go in the photo-pile.

I think mine is probably all more aEW (almost extremely worthless). I might dig out some of the EF stuff for the 'bay, but other than that I have no idea what to do with it all. Melting it with a plasma cutter into artwork would be satisfying I think.

Thanks will, that might be an option if it isn't all too old. I am dreading it, and literally just now found another 1.5kg bag to go in the pile. I'm starting to think I have as much coinage as @zookeeperz - it's just stored in one or two "large" holders

I read this and an alarm in my brain went off (about 5 hourts later)... then I realised you meant getting a BU currency one is damn hard (as opposed to getting a currency coin missing the initials). Finding a currency coin with initials, that would be a new one! EDIT: My currency one.

The reverse should be the shield, rather than the crowned lion which was used until 2008. So in essence, a 2009 Obverse with a 2008 reverse = mule of interest. Link to example on LCA
