    More Pennies

While it's occasionally fun to jest, in all seriousness, how much would a coin in that state actually fetch if it did turn out to be a rare one? My commmon sense screams "but who on earth would want such a thing?" .. and my OCD side screams back "Whatever it takes to fill that damn gap"... Am I Conflicted much?

    More Pennies

I watch with anticipation .. like because, just how? I have some better than that I couldn't possibly dream of getting close on (except maybe with xrays or time travel).

    Ebay's Worst Offerings

Given the mintage of what was it 7 or 8 known examples, if you had one and you knew it had a decent history, 30 seconds on google should have you running directly for a) the royal mint or 2) a reputable coindealer or III) a prominent Coin Aution house. You wouldn't flog it off to someone who seems unable to speak english for a few quid, surely?

where to cash in new pence 2p coins from 1971-1983

Trouble is Thazz, even if you set up a website or a page or stickies explaining this, none of these people would believe it and would still come and post silly questions. I mean, if a pretty 50p with a mintage of 8million+ can be rare, and OFFERED for sale at £5k+ why shouldn't every other coin in history.

    1860 farthing mule?

Agreed Colin, but on closer inspection of Zoo's images above, it seems like there is some difference which isn't light related. I used my best crayon skills to highlight a couple of areas Lighthouse, rocks and Ship standard are a few of teh more obvious, so I chopped down the image to a more presentable size.

    1860 farthing mule?

Looking at the original Farthings, the reverses - one is clearly not the listed A or B, given the lighthouse size, Ship standard etc? My freeman only lists 2, Colins site only lists 2 (aboutfarthings). Am I missing something please?

    Recent aquisitions

Nice when you find it before you sell it

    Rare Aquatic 50 pence copies

Here's a few which make me look carefully. Font of inscription - fake seems to be thinner. Goggles - Real one has a more defined inner incuse ring. Lines across the face - more wavy on the real one, better defined ear. The TM next to the Olympic logo is narrower on the real coin.

    The humble pound

It's so random, you just don't know what oddity will be the next "kew" these days. Which publication or newsfeed aren't we reading to get a heads-up on it?

    Farewell

To 2017, may everyones hopes and dreams (and especially much sought after aqusistions) be realised in 2018. Happy Nerw Year! Kev

    Farewell

I wouldn't worry. I post some pics of shocking coins

    The humble pound

So many year sets are being bought up and split, selling the odd coin for hugely inflated prices - I'm not even sure a market exists yet, but that doesn't seem to be stopping it. But why? it's cheaper to buy a year set. I think I need to approach scholls and re-introduce "common sense".
  13. It looked really quite lovely (I still think it does), but up close and personal it has some interesting features.

    Trainwreck of a Threepence

I meant to add a questionmark to the title, but my keyboard skills lack somewhat. I wondered why I hadn't seen much in the way of responses, but given a statement like that for a title, it doesn't lend itself to much of a conversation starter, does it? Given that Peter has taken the time to provide some (rather harsh but accurate) critique, is there any other opinion on how much of a disaster this one is? Should I get even a glimmer of hope from the large 1over small 1 in the date (1/1861) and what very much appears to be a larger V over an inverted A for the V of Victoria? The D of D:G is clearly a die-fill issue, and the offset colon after F:D: is already noted but for a different year. Looks to me like an A1+1A, as always please feel free to correct me here. ESC is not exactly brimming with info for the 1861.

    Best coin capsules?

The 40mm ones fit nicely into the large trays in the Lidl coin boxes. I just bought a 16mm punch to add a new hole for my sixpences, as the ones with "british coin" inserts don't go that small.

    Lovely Eddie farthing

Thank you Coinery It doesn't mean a vast amount (at the moment) but will probably give me hours of fun in the futire when I try to understand these hammered blighters.

    Lovely Eddie farthing

A slight diversion - could anyone actually ID my previously refferred to, beat up little farthing for me please? It'd be much appreciated, as far as I could get was Eddie. Farthing. Small (~10ish mm, its a 15mm flip)

    EBAY SCAM

Yes, I need to stop buying silver... but then some pennies are more expensive. I still don't understand Pounds Shillings and Pence, but it is awfully pretty

    Ebay's Worst Offerings

Thats not very sporting, at least these people have reasonably priced BIN's on all their novelties.

    Lovely Eddie farthing

Best Book/resource for Victoria Silver coinage Errors

Thanks Vicky, I hope to spend some considerable time accumulating much more of your namesake before I get to the later Georges - obviously if I can bag anything decent at sill money along the way, I'll not be rude enough to refuse. If I could go back in time to when I started, I'd probably tell myself to aim for a monarch with far less cost and variety involved
  24. As per the title, which books are the most accurate/useful for Victorian silver coin errors please. Christmas is coming and "santa" needs some extra ideas, so more additions to the library are highly probable Additionally are there any specific online resources for Vicky silver which I may not have stumbled upon, but which are a gold mine of silver info? Thanks!
