If you need larger images I'll post them one at a time. Thanks for your help! -

Here they are ... Excuse the crudity of the photos, I was too lazy to get the stand out... -
Thats some proof collection, and quite a lot of it is on my wish list (but don't tell the nice people on here :)). Unfortunately I bought a complete collection already this month and 'er indoors would frown quite a lot if I went after another without selling at least some of the last one! Good luck with it though.
-
I'd have to say, I'd have bought the farmer out too. Unfortunately 10+ years of detecting and no gold for me yet!.Had a couple of really nice lizzie sixpences and oodles of romans though Still jealous of this as a detecting find though! as mrbadexample says, what are you going to follow this post with

If you can get 150 for that in a plastic case, I think I might need to get at least 1 coin graded lol
-
I totally agree, our relatives across the pond seem to have an obsession with things packaged in plastic, which doesn't necessarily indicate good quality.
-
Gaz, if you have a scanner that may be a better option for pictures. As coins are reasonably flat (normally) any scanner should be able to do a reasonably decent job of getting a good image. Really nice find btw.
-
I have better I still wouldn't get graded. I'm puzzled by this.
-
Hi Gaz, you'll find you aren't the only collector/detectorist (does that make us collectorists?) on here!

1826 penny token?
Unwilling Numismatist replied to Pavel's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
Given the crudity, I might be tempted towards a contemporary forgery, however a penny would (at least today) seem somewhat unworthy of such effort. -
She certainly doesn't look very far off though
-
Very true, but just when you start to think you know enough, someone else with more knowledge will perhaps direct you to further thought, leading back to the "where can I learn more about this..." Where better to begin the search for more knowledge, than the place you heard it first.
-
Commonly asked questions and answers sticky threads in a newb/beginners section normally works quite well, but does involve the overhead of several admin members to maintain and update. Under-use of the forum search is a man's own worst enemy, second only to forgetfulness.

In the late 60's I was only just being created.... A week or so ago, I introduced myself here after quite a lot(tm) of lurking I have many questions yet to be asked, but at the same time, I also find that the forum search is very helpful (and often sidetracks me into reading for hours on entirely unrelated but also very interesting things). There is so much knowledge and a huge amount of pictures on here, I think it would be nearly impossible to read everything in my remaining lifetime!

Odd 5 Franc 1867 white gold?
Unwilling Numismatist replied to Mumra's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
https://www.aliexpress.com/wholesale?initiative_id=SB_20171020090558&site=glo&g=y&SearchText=napoleon+iii+5+franc&page=1 Gold would be gold all the way, no-one plates gold. Silver likewise would not be plated with a top-coat of non-precious metal. Platinum wouldn't be worth it for such a small coin, and white gold is a 20th century .. I want to say trend, but that doesn't seem like the right word. -
Odd 5 Franc 1867 white gold?
Unwilling Numismatist replied to Mumra's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
It's still plated. And by that I mean not gold or precious. My money, all $1.92 of it would be on aliexpress.com or similar. -
I thought it was a King on 1938/39 coinage
-
Blimey, I have a whole pile of those rare ones....

Odd 5 Franc 1867 white gold?
Unwilling Numismatist replied to Mumra's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
looks plated to me. -
or realistically priced... 120 quid ofr a box with a 50p in, eeerm... it wouldn't be so bad imho, if they didn;t paint the coins after finishing them to "highest proof standard". It seems a little pointless,

How about one that you can add pages to as needed? -
Round Pounds
Unwilling Numismatist replied to craigy's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
That is a nice collection, and I agree - the RM do seem to be cheaping out on the quality of presentation these days, mlking every last drop of profit from their sales with flimsy cars and cheap plastic abound. -
Jeez man, i definitaley don't get out enough. 103 hammies off one field though, thats about 90 more than my lifetimes count. In all fairness though, I've had plenty of romans instead

Where do you detect, in a coin shop lol Can't wait for the maize to come off my Hammered bank...
