interesting
Unwilling Numismatist replied to craigy's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
I'd bet theres a few more features than just self-likeness among the many coin designs - with today's affordable microscopes I imagine more things will suface when people get to looking. I know in that job I'd certainly try to get the odd thing past quality control -
So, Brexit....What's happening?
Unwilling Numismatist replied to azda's topic in Nothing whatsoever to do with coins area!
Me too? because it seems to me, it's either the remainer 'me and mine' or their brethren peers, and not the country who voted who are getting the say on this. -

But surely the govenrments duty of care is relevant to which way you voted? Someone from the "leave" side would say that the government has a duty of care to everyone to abide by the result, and remove the country from the EU for it's many well documented flaws* *please refer to the internet. -
For those interested, the set of 50p's including a 2019 Kew are on sale from today. These sets are limited to 3,500. Make of it what you will, I have mine.. just wish they'd left it for a month or two, as this close to Christmas getting 10 wasn't an option. https://www.royalmint.com/our-coins/events/50-years-of-the-50p/ Kev

50 Years of the 50p (Set)
Unwilling Numismatist replied to Unwilling Numismatist's topic in Decimal Coins
The RM still won't provide any clues - website still says mntage tbc, I'd love to know how many of each were minted, some were 4th portait no denomination, some 5th portait with denomination. This time around they should be teh 5th portrait with denomination but that remains to be seen -

Keep an eye on the Battle of Britain 50p, I wonder if they'll bugger up the denomination again. -

And that will prove really hard to get, given this new queing system that randomly assigns slots at a given time. -
not for circulation,
Unwilling Numismatist replied to craigy's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
I just don't understand why you'd mint the things and not drop 20-100k into circulation, I know they're trying to keep all of the profit from the market they've created, but seriously? 6 months after the release date, just send some out to circulation. And yes, I like the wedgewood too. -

Spink will need to do a completely new book on non-circulation issues at this rate! How many is that so far this year, 10 designs now? -

Looking at how many are on ebay now, and that they're starting at 1p and there are about 500 listings, I think people have twigged what "unlimited" means..... so yep, I think many people will be crying soon lol. Some still say "rare" and a couple are flagging a "Kew Gardens" but that isn't the 2009 currency coin... The gullible will probably still hooover some up, but I think these will be dropping in price like lead balloons within a day or two -
I wouldn't touch any of his hammered with the exception of the really worn lizzie 1st.

50 Years of the 50p (Set)
Unwilling Numismatist replied to Unwilling Numismatist's topic in Decimal Coins
Exactly, I mean... w.t.f. If they said in the email or in the precursor advertisments "Unlimited, no need to rush".... simples, yawn, snooze and look much, much later. -

The next instalment (BU) is now available, along with a very unhelpful queuing system which has kindly placed me at 30+ minutes even though I was at the site at 11:20. Thanks RM. And absolutely no clues about any figures prior to the site going live.... do I even need to stay up, or will this be another "unlimited" cash cow? Only time will tell. Maybe one day they'll put the price and the mintage in the damn email they send out 10 minutes after the site goes live and teh queue system kicks you back for 60 minutes. In other news I have received some 11 more Victorias so far this year, I really must show them off at some point -
So the RM have announced that on the 19th there will be yet another (yawn) Beatrix potter Peter Rabbit 50p. Prepare your alarm clocks for a swift profit gents! Bets on it being a circulation coin ? I'll go with yes. the rest have been and it and 3 friends won't be in any sets. You can clearly hear the Cha-ching from my house and I'm 30 miles from Llantrisant.

Crikey, I don't think they're that quick at making fakeys.... but you never know. -

And in other news.... Gold - 500 Silver proof - 30 THOUSAND!!!! really quite scarce then. (and obvs not sold out yet, and I doubt it will after this cash cow has been milked so much) BU - unlimited by the looks of it, also "not for circulation" again, how very dissapointing that this is another cash cow and it's only frikkin march! -
Yet another of the "just across the bridge" fakes who seem to be using the proximity of the mint to cover their chickenshittery.
-
There are an awful lot of fakes originating just across the bridge..... £2 coins, fake kews, dateless 20p's .. way too much modern fakery, - much of it on gumtree and shpock, and then all the associated "older" copies as well. The trouble is it seems to be across about 5 or 6 sellers.

How did he do it ?
Unwilling Numismatist replied to craigy's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
Probably got it in change like everyone else. -
Indeed!
-
Yes the quick profit is teh silver proof, they go really fast and turn up on ebay in minutes at up to 3x the price
-
if it is limited, I hope they announce it fairl soon - no limit was specified - so it leaves me thinking it will be like the snowman / gruffalo et'al .. money from whoever wants to buy it.
-
Cheers Dave - 2500 piedfort. As usual, BU is unlimited so no rush.

They went on sale at 7AM, pretty much another 30minute gold rush.
