Just putting this coin in the correct section as it is a lovely hammered coin. The reverse die is the same as number 200 in the famous Schneider collection but the obverse has the mint mark in a different place, maybe an over mark.

Thanks Rob. How do I put a date to this coin, would it be 1633-4 as the portcullis is showing? I'm not sure but it could be the same on the reverse as well but very faint and something else above the portcullis, Don't think its harp as its the wrong shape. Any ideas what happened to the beading around the edge of the coin at both mint marks? I don't know but maybe the over mark punch had a line of beading engraved as well.

Hi all, Sorry for bringing this coin up again. I took some slightly better pictures, rather than scans. I bought myself a copy of Herbert Schneider Gold coins as I have been told the rev is Schneider 200. The Obverse was not the same as the 200 coin in the book, but looked very much like the Portcullis mint Legend around the coin. Looking at the mint mark the coin appears to be Crown over Bell over Portcullis only on the obverse. Was this Rare for this to happen? and how would this have come about, i.e was the mint mark stamped on the coin in 1633 with portcullis mark and not issued into circulation and so on for 1634-5 then released out of the mint in 1635-6 with crown mint mark. Conformation on what I'm looking at with the mint mark would be much appreciated.

Sorry all for the late reply, just got my computer back from repair. I had a go with soap and water on the half crown black spot but wouldn't touch it, so that's as far as i dare go. I don't mind them looking a little crabby Ozjohn the half crown looks cracking now, well done.

I give up with the camera!!, I have tried light from every angle, tried every setting and still rubbish. Sorry the pictures from the scanner are better. I will have a go in some natural day light when i get chance.

Managed to grab a day out detecting today. Had this little beaut, Not bad condition saying its been rolling around in a ploughed field.

It is quite nice, will try to take a picture of it, but not sure what the quality of the pic will be like.

That is one lovely coin, only found one milled lizzy but nothing like the condition of yours, well found

A little better picture of what i can see. looking under magnification looks like a bar connecting the loop of 9 to the tail part.

Hi Can anyone help out with the date on my half crown, would this be just the normal 1819 or is the 9 double struck or could this be the 9 over 8. I don't have any other 1819 half crowns to check the 9 against. Thanks for any help.

Hi Guys, Had five hours metal detecting today in a freezing cold blizzard but rewarded with this Henry VIII Groat. Shame about the scratches but still a nice find. I think its spink 2337E rose mint mark, please put me right if I'm wrong. Its 24 mm across and 2.7 g is the coin slightly heavy or is it normal. thanks for any help.

Stu the new Garrett detectors are a real good buy, good depth and easy to use, I have always had Garrett detectors. But had a change last year to the Xp Deus, they are really good but a little complicated.

Found a couple of pics of the Spink 1757 on the net with the legend reading EXCULTABITUR, but no information on the spelling mistake as mine has missing I, would anyone know of a reference to the reverse of my coin i can look up ? Thanks for any help.

Coinery you must get one again, there are plenty of clubs around and most people in them will go out of there way to help you with setting up your machine. Its a fab hobby if you like peace and quiet, wildlife and finding coins .... its great!!

I made a right pigs ear of that post ! the legend should read, EXALTABITUR IN GLORIA mine reads EXCULTABTUR IN GLORIA. Its 1.7g and 19mm across.

Thanks copper and zoo, Searched the little coin, found its from Hungary as you guys said. Its Louis II (Lajos II) 1516-26, K-G. They sell for about 15-20 pounds so not bad. Search on for the other two now, will let you know if I find anything.

Paid £10 for 3 coins four German bank notes. Are they real and worth the tenner I paid?
