Thanks, really nice work.

I know what your job would have been back in the medieval period. What do you make them out of Dave? That could be so misleading to someone like me, if I found that in a field, I would have a coronary ? Fab workmanship though.

As close as I can find so far, legend on reverse of mine I believe will say HOLLHO then maybe a mint mark of some kind., then P or T obverse is slightly different as well, no small cross before HOLLANDIE on this coin I'm still searching, lol never looked at so many coins from Holland.
-
Turns out this little coin is a denier of Floris V, Count of Holland (1256-96) struck early in the reign, Voided long cross on the reverse, very rare. The type has been traced but as yet no specimens fit the legend, so work still in progress. Thanks to Peter Spencer the editor and compiler of ID & V Desk in the searcher.

now that would be a good idea!

Just wondering if the date on this coin has a normal 6, 9 . they both look like the same open backed punch, is this correct for this date?
-
Thanks again Rob, Much appreciated.

Its strange stu how all the gold I have found has come out in lovely condition, just a George IIII Sovereign I had that maybe be me or the plough had dinked it.

Is there a reference to the obverse Rob?

-
Yes could well be. Or maybe a counter.

I think this has to be the most beautiful gold coin I have plucked from the ground. This was found some 25 years ago, every time I look at it I think about the poor person that dropped it. It still has luster around the legends.

It was a nice feeling seeing that lump fall out of the clod.
-
Thanks Dave. I thought striking cracks may have been caused by the silver cooling to fast, only reason I asked
-
How did this happen to this threepence , one quarter of the rev is lower than the rest of the design?
-
Thanks Rob, will enquire.
