  4. Hope so, was talking to my dad at the weekend about my coins, was saying I have no idea what most of them are or worth. I just find them, give them a quick wash and into the box. But I do love looking at them, tiny pieces of art.
  5. The shapes of the letters I find difficult ... I cant tell if they are square or rounded... they all look similar, the early ones, wedge shaped seem ok ...lol you will have to have a look at my i.d s .. put me right. I'm sort of totally lost with sub classes

  7. I'm getting the bug of trying to i.d my coins, I got myself a copy of the short - cross coinage by Christopher r wren, I had a few more short cross coins will put them up with my own interpretation of what I think they are lol.
  8. Turns out this little coin is a denier of Floris V, Count of Holland (1256-96) struck early in the reign, Voided long cross on the reverse, very rare. The type has been traced but as yet no specimens fit the legend, so work still in progress. Thanks to Peter Spencer the editor and compiler of ID & V Desk in the searcher.

  19. Always at Christmas... bottle of sloe gin. That does the trick... Its strange though how from knocking on a farmers door, not knowing what you are going to meet to becoming really good friends with that person. Its a lovely pass time, and you have the chance of finding a coin or two.
  20. Just go knocking on the farmers doors one out of three will let you go. I have just got a new farm.. fields backing onto the church so watch this space.
  21. I do mate, I have a few books but they are all old. I was detecting for about 30 years, When I started a detector was as good as walking around a field with a magnet on a rope I stopped detecting about 10 years ago due to problems. All my coins and artefacts ended up in the loft, not seen for years. But everything good again now so just got myself a new detector..Xp deus ...brill!!, and recovered my coin cabinet from the loft. some nice bits I found Just need some books like you said.
